I am taking my ram in for the recall update on the steering column (ignition switch) and while I am there I need a new throttle cable. Mine is freyed very badly. I asked the service guy to get me a cable so he was ready when I come in and he says that he knows of no new updated cable. Can someone give me a part # for a '95 model? Thank you for your time! Jeff

Jeff,

I don't think you can get the wrong one. When I replaced mine I just ordered the one in the parts book at the Dodge dealer. It was the new one when I got it.

Jeff,

I don't know what the part # is, but the new throttle cable has been out for some time and your service guy probably isn't familiar enough with the throttle cable problem to know that it was upgraded some time ago.

The upgraded cable has a plastic sheath covering the braided steel cable where it attaches to the injection pump. Mine had frayed to the point where only one strand was left unbroken by the time I checked it (after reading about the problem in the TDR). I've had mine for about three years now.

D*** you Joe, you beat me by one minute! #ad

Jeff: I installed one in my '96 which used part number 4897406AA for the cable package. Included was the new bell crank lever which must be installed with the new cable. I also put on a new return spring part number 4874476. The cable package was slightly less than $40 and the spring less than $2. Be sure to write down your engine number in case there is a cut off point for part numbers. Good luck.

When you pick up your rig check the cable if it is wire---not plastic incased you did not get the updated cable...
How ever-- if they say that is all we have your stuck with it,not to worry.
Find a JD. dealer and get a spherical ball
for the throttle linkage to carb of a 140 lawn tractor.
Pop the ball/stud out of the assy. drill a new mounting hole down from the current stud mounting about 1/4-3/8ths inch. and that wire cable will never wair out again.
Wrong angle to the dangle!!!!!!!!!!!!
