Cooling system flush

Diagnosing white smoke

So after a little delay, I finally got all the new plumbing for my brake booster and power steering done, I replaced the factory steel o-ring lines with o-ring to JIC fittings and custom built stainless steel lines to run to the power booster and the bulk of the way to the gear box with the though that the stainless hard lines are easier to keep in place and less likely to be damaged by things thrown up by the tires, the short run of flexible hose is stainless brained PTFE hose with crimp on JIC ends, chosen again for it's toughness and also for it's looks.

Nice job! That gives me ideas on upgrades to my truck. Have a remote oil filter setup under passengers side floorboard. Using 1/2 hydraulic hoses and like the look of your solid line with flex hoses! Gotta start saving my pennies left over from fuel purchases! :D

The one thing I would caution you on with your remote mount oil filter is make sure what ever hose you want to use has a high enough temperature rating, I've seen hoses on Allison transmission coolers fail cause who ever put them on used cheap hose that couldn't handle the operating temperature, but other then that should be a easy enough project

I got side tracked working on other people's stuff, but I finally have some progress to share again, the first one is nothing fancy but should make a big difference in the summer heat, I installed brass 90° ball valves in both ends of my heater loop. It might not seem like much but closing them makes a really big difference in the buses I work on as far as keeping the inside of the vehicle cooler

This one is a bit more complicated and I'm kind of proud of it, I have never really been happy with the 120amp out put of the factory alternator to begin with, and the low quality crap at the parts stores these days just makes the situation worse. But though a series of happy accidents I ended up with a brand new 210 amp Leece Neville alternator for a bus that the customer decided they didn't want, and after looking at it a little bit I got a idea.
IMG_20220528_114229706.jpg
you can see that the Leece Neville is only a little larger then the factory Dodge one

After carefully drilling the bottom mounting ear on the engine for a 1/2" bolt to pass though and making a spacer from a steel spring bushing sleeve to take up the rest of the space between the rear alternator ear and the back of the factory mount the new alternator was sitting pretty much in the factory location

With the alternator sitting where I wanted it the top mount needed to be 1.5" longer to to reach the alternator, so I cut a 1" arch out of 1/4" plate and welded it to a old factory mounting bracket to make it look good and offer some ani twist support. The last step was to drill the ear on the thermostat housing out to except a 3/8" bolt then paint and install it

School buses? Well...... Umm yes but no, some of them are Thomas safety liner body's, but they're fitted out as tour buses so they have nice seats and AC and really large side windows, and the rest just get weirder from there. Especially the Champions, don't buy champion buses

So I got distracted there for a bit but I'm back at it again, after some though and taking with some friends I decided that a cooler for the power steering system was probably a good idea.a quick trip to Napa fit a trans cooler and I was set. Followed by a quick bending of new lines to hook the cooler into the system

I need a new exhaust down pipe, but because of my odd combination of parts there's no off the shelf options so once again, custom made it is, it's 409 stainless steel, then raped with header tape then sealed to protect my heater box from the heat coming off of it

My truck has had hood pins for years as a replacement for the secondary safety latch, but my original ones were just cheap ones from AutoZone and I decided that I wanted something a bit cleaner looking. The old one

So.......I did it again, I found that my dash was heavily damaged and would need to be replaced, and I have been unhappy with the performance of the AC system for some time and decided it was time to do something about it
