just wanted to remind everyone of what a pc of work that place is

they sold the simerly's a new transmission (nv 4500) that supposedly had all the right stuff in it (billet output, full spline 5th, split lock nut, etc)

as soon as i got the truck the 5th gear nut fell off. i disassembled the trans and it was all stock. i had to purchase all the parts that they had already paid for!

just dont want anyone else to get taken by these guys

i should repost this everytime it falls off the frt pg but i prolly wont

don

ps - wonder how many "built" (stock) transmission's they sell every year?

Why would you pay for parts you already paid for once? I would take the issue up with them and if that didn't resolve the issue, take them to court.

i live in so cal

the simerly's live in reno nv

us gear is in tex

the parts were like $600

and it had been over 2 yrs

if i woulda known that the same stuff was avail from other suppliers i would not have given us gear a dime

trust me

yeah the nv4500 is an AWESOME trans...

you just need to make a bunch of custom mods i. e. basically gut the whole thing and put solid billet shafts in with integrated 5th gear etcetcetc to get it to hold up behind the cummins.

That 5th gear nut situation should have given the NV4500 as bad a reputation or worse than the Getrag! Have you seen the freakin price on the NV4500 "fix-all" shafts Quad 4x4 sells :--)! Holy Cow, I think I would buy a couple Getrags before I spent money like that on known issue replacement parts...

actually, knowing what i know now i would say that is not true in most cases...

if you have a 4500 and pull the tail housing off you can see if your transmission has the stock stuff or not

how?

by the nut that is holding 5th gear on

if it is not a split nut your trans is probably stock

and that is probably fine, except that nut is gonna fall off and tear stuff up

i think they sell the split nut for like 20 bucks

one of those and some red locktite and that trans will probably outlast your truck!

yea, the 5th gear is not fully splined and neither is the shaft, but i beat up on mine pretty hard and that stuff looked fine

one thing about that transmission is that it is a truck transmission. it isnt made to be speed shifted. i pulled 20k# all over the place with a 325hp motor infront of that trans with no problems. until the nut fell off. i was so ****** i just beat it back on and used a mig welded to spot weld it. that lasted about another 5k miles, then, while pulling away from a dead stop in granny low it twisted the output shaft in two. if i woulda had the split nut on it instead of the welds it probably wouldnta broke
