I installed the boost elbow that came with my EZ, but have often wondered if you could just drill a hole in the factory elbow (underneath so it isn't seen) so you wouldn't have to replace it when you have to go to the dealer. Or how about just using a clamp on the hose to limit the amout of pressure to the wastgate??? Any thoughts???

A friend of mine showed me a trick he uses on his Grand National to regulate boost. Went to Home Depot and bought an air pressure regulator for an air compressor and tied it in between boost elbow and wastegate. I can adjust it to however much boost I want. Works really well. All you need is the regulator, a couple of brass fittings, and some hose and clamps and you are ready to go.

Drilling a hole in the stock elbow will not work because the hole has to be so big that you start to loose boost through the hole, example would be about the same as a loose boot clamp. You have to plug the elbow to get boost and then drill a small hole if desired.

It's much easier to just install the elbow, about two minutes and that includes finding the wrench. besides if you have the factory clamp and the service guy or gal looks he will know it's been tampered with anyhow.

Edit::

Slighly modified,

Thats a great idea, I will have to print that off when I get home.

Oh how much a person learns on this sight, it's almost worth a semesters tuition in college.

I installed a regulator about a year ago to regulate boost and monitor EGT's. Found out the more boost the better. as my boost dropped from 36#'s the egt went up logrithmetly. It is still on the truck but it is adj to 45# just to make shure it does not impeed the 36#'s I produce.

I do not have a "boost elbow" on mine and really do not see a need for the wastegate to be operational unless you are producing 45#+ and do not want to chance rupturing the air charge cooler. If you are makeing 45#+ then you need a bigger turbo than the HX35 stocker any way.

I just have a basic hose clamp on my wastegate hose (I have the elbow installed) and D/c hasn't ever said anything to me.

I've said a lot to them though... :D :-{}

I used a Hose pinch style clamp available from Autozone/checker it worked fine. The PE Elbow is custom made inside as well as the hole or I have factory style clamps if you are interested it keeping the stock look.

What is to be gained

Good evening

Answer this if you can. Please don't make a SWAG (Silly Wild A-- Guess) I can do that on my own.

1. What is gained running the EZ elbow vice the stock one??

2. Will running the EZ elbow set off any overboost codes or anything else???

Thanks

See Ya

If you are running a box like an EZ here is what you get.

1. You can run the EZ without the boost elbow. The elbow gives you more boost, which will lower your EGT when towing or pulling a load. If you don't tow or load your truck up, you could get by without the boost elbow, but I'd intall an EGT gauge to be safe.

2. The EZ boost elbow will not set an overboost code, if you are running an EZ or another box that has the electronics built it to fool the computer to not see the overboost. The EZ has this built in.

Hope this helps...

;)

Mad Max, Thx for that supplier I have contacted them to see if they are cheaper than my current supplier. These are the clamps I use when building turbos with wastegates and I include one with the PE EZ's and Comp's when I sell one. There's no need for the expensive plyers. It is easy to use side cutter / dikes to crimp the clamps. It works great.

Those clamps are commonly used on some air and hydraulic lines. I get them in a 5 pack for less than $2 CDN from our hose supplier. Most hydraulic hose places should have them cheap in bulk. As Kurt said, side cutters will work to put them on.

Thanks

Thanks RJOL

That makes since to me. I have the boost, EGT and fuel Psi gauges on my truck. I have yet to get it over 950 pre turbo, so EGTs are not a problem for me yet.

I will install it soon and check it out, in April I will be dragging my 5er to Maryland for the big event up there. That sounds like a good test to me.

Thanks for your reply. I was not tryng to be a but hole with the SWAG thing, but some times you get folks telling others some real BS.

See Ya

Chris

I know I need to update my profile.

Chris, 950 Pre turbo Sounds wrong to me... ... It has been a while since I turned the fuel up "A Little" :D from stock but I remember Much higher EGT Numbers than that!... . Kurt

Why

Hello

My truck was empty and not pulling anything. I have a K&N and a free flowing exhaust on my truck. Could that be why they seem low??

Folks with a similar set up let me know what temps you are seeing.

Thanks

See Ya

Chris
