My BIL in central pa is in the hunt for a 3 gen. There's a lot near him that has quite a nice bunch of pick em ups of all types including 3 gens. When I was visiting less than a month ago, he brought me there to look at a 04 Laramie with less than 100k on it. Real nice spotless with a 5th kit in back and 305's. Must have been a garage kept southern truck. Price= $39k. Won't budge a penny.

I know that many don't believe me when I say it, but you would be shocked at the number of offers that I have had for my '07. I paid $36500 for it in May of '07 and I am getting offers in the low 30's consistantly.

I wouldn't bat an eye at paying $30k for a low milage truck but not over that. The one thing I've noticed over the last few months is the fairly priced trucks sell and the over priced ones are still for sale.

When I sold my 04 in July, I started off with $25k and the slowly reduced. I didn't get any serious buyers until I dropped below $20k. My truck was pushing 300k miles though. I guy showed up with $15k cash and I took it happily.

I'm shopping for a new one anyway but if I came across a decent and fairly priced 3rd, I jump on it. But at these screwy prices, I'll buy a new one any day.

Jgillott im with ya on that one, im tired of taking slips of paper out from under my windshield wipers ,messages that want to buy it and phone numbers and will pay $$$$$$$$

It's crazy. A couple years ago when I very regrettably sold my '05 I had a hard time getting book for it, and it was a Laramie, loaded, with 52K miles. Now they are going for way, waaaay over book with four times the mileage. Hard to imagine.

What seems to be the magic combination, which of these drive the price?

Quad Cab vs 2 dr.
8' Bed vs shorty
Manual or Auto
2WD or 4WD
Condition of course, salt free is always a plus.
Mileage.
Records?
Stock, as issued.

I'm sure it is any 3rd Gen truck with the 5.9 engine.
I have a very clean 09 that is stock and have never had an offer nor so much as a compliment.
Everyone knows the emission trucks are a bad deal.

Not really go to the 4th gen section and do some reading or better yet talk to someone face to face about the new truck that they have, and you will see that the problems have either been worked out of the 3rd gens or they didn't have that many to begin with IF THE OWNER left his POWER CHIPS out of them and used them as they were intended. IMO it all goes back to the afterburner exhaust BS that makes the newer ones a POS

Most people in the know do not want the emission controlled engine. The early 07 with the 5.9L and down to the 05 trucks are known as the best of the last non-emission controlled truck. These are in a very high demand since they are easy to modify and can make lots of high horsepower easily. Also the 4X4 trucks will demand a higher resale value than a 2WD truck.

My son's 06 CCLB can easily get close to 40K if he wanted to sell. His truck just turn over 25K miles on the OD, I believe. Garage kept and never ever driven in the winter or on salt covered roads. I tell him all the time that his 13 Golf TDI has more miles on the car than his 06 does. He says yea that's why I have the Golf and the 96 LB Dodge Cummins to drive when needed.

just for kicks I ran my 03 thru kbb.com,with 401k, plain jane st 4 door,6sp. worth 13,000. wouldn't take that or twice that.

Well when a loaded up new one is easy to hit 60K on, people will spend 35K on an older one that gets better mileage and has less of the complicated emissions stuff....

Wow, send those people with money my way. :-laf

Dealer said it was worth "around $15,000" on trade so you know he would ask $25k on the lot.

I've been looking at new trucks lately, but just don't want to spend $60,000.

Oh well I guess I'll just hold onto it a little while longer.

2006 Dodge Laramie Reg Cab, CTD, 4WD, Automatic, 373 rear, Trailer tow pkg, snow plow pkg, mag hytec both axels & trans., never towed or plowed with it just my daily driver.

Simple, Older Diesels Were Great

In June a buddy sold his 2005 6-speed with about 130k on the clock for mid-20s (he/his wife still has an '06 CTD) to buy my '96 F350 5-speed for mid-teens with 130k on it (we are both die-hard manual transmission guys, and used clutch trucks are harder to find). Both of our rigs were worth serious money for their age/mileage/condition, and he was able to bank a chunk of money as was his plan.

I bought a new fourth-gen 6-speed, a Tradesman, didn't pay much...it's still new, with few miles, but I think/hope it will be a good truck, seems well-sorted.

My '07 is very nice and I can understand why people would be interested in it. Our 04.5 is as beat as a work/plow truck could be. Dented, scratched, 300+K, and the back bumper is rusted almost completely off from the salt spreader. It was over at our local equipment place for a week or so getting a new spreader installed and some work done on the plow. When my brother-in-law went over to pick it up, there was a note left on it from an interested buyer. It is amazing that anyone would even look at that thing.

I'm biased, but my feeling is that the most wanted combo is a Quad, short bed, 4x4, 6-speed. Stock seems to be more in demand than modded trucks.

I know exactly how everyone feels, that is why I hang on to my 2001. I am in the market for a 3500 2002, but some of the prices are just too out of line.
