I think my vacuum pump has failed. (No 4x4 engage,no cruise, no a/c vent control) THe dealer wants 900. 00 just for the pump, 1400 total for the pump and install. Cummins West (San Leandro) wants 600 for the pump and more to install. Is it possible to rebuild the vacuum pump? My last diesel vehicle (VW Rabbit) had an EASY to repair vaccuum pump, just had to put a new diaphragm in, the dodge one looks difficult. . The truck is a 97 12 valve.

Vacuum Pump

Re Vacuum Pump Failure.

I have a 96 CTD and my pump has a check valve coming out of the pump. Mine stuck closed and just needed taken off and cleaned.

Hope this helps.

Dick

If your pump is in fact bad just buy an electric one for a Ford, under $100 and will probably last as long as you own the truck. .

mine was making this wierd sound, sorta high pitch, well called the dealer today and ordered the check valve part only, it leaking oil past the white valve and getting tired of cleaning the vacuum hose from pump to firewall connection to crusie controller connection, charged me $108. 00, to me it's better then the full pump price above, which they also quoted me.

illflem... . tgbol... .

how would this ford one work ?, same small diameter line?

thanks

check valve vacuum pump

Would a failure of the check valve stop All vacuum pump operations? (4wd engage,A/C vents, Cruise) There is oil all over my vac pump now...

maybe... you could have oil blocking the small vacuum tubing, or if it's oil like you said all over, check below the pump, there's an oil line going into the pump from the engine, just engine oil, which could be bad news,

The part number for the F*rd electric vacuum pump is

E3HZ-2A451-A. It is about $100. It maintains vaccum on demand.

ahhhhhhhh.

installed the new check valve for my vacuum pump, no more noiseOo. ,high pitch sorta whistling noise, and not the turbo,

it sounds a little different, i KNOW what that sounds like,

also have received my factory towing mirrors today, finally !!!

will install next week sometime, next tow is to Reno late Sept for

evaluation of mirrors..... :D

I dont know if this includes a 97, but there was a recall on our 96 for vacuum lines, they replaced a checkball or something. ALL vacuum lines AND vacuum equipment are under warranty for failure due to faulty valve, but, dont know if it goes past the 5 year/100,000 miles or not.

Mine has vacuum assist brakes. Is it an odd beast?

Will the Ford electric pump work with vacuum assist brakes?

Thanks.

Blake

All the trucks that I have seen that are '96+ have hydroboost... . this is why I thought his was odd.....

As long as that F*rd pump can make enough vacuum for your truck it should work just fine... . (good answer, huh?)

97 Vacuum Pump

The vacuum pump is a Wabco Model 914-003-005-0. I'm sure that you can get a rebuilt one or even send yours back to be rebuilt for less than $900. 00. I called Cummins and the pump is about $600. 00. Probably best try to locate a pump rebuild shop that can rebuild it if it is the pump. Good Luck Ken Irwin

I replaced the vac. lines, cruise servo and ck. valve on a early 1997, 12v.

It had the ck. valve go bad and the lines were contaminated.

I also changed the panel to defrost acuator near the go pedal on the bottom of the HVAC ducting.

I gave the customer my bill. Later DC paid for it, since the identical thing happend after the supposed ck. valve should have been in use on the assy line etc.

Cummins has one for about 30, but I had to disassy it and put its "guts" in the old ck. valve. The valve from Cummins had threads that were way to large to thred into the vacuum pump housing.

I'm sure metric adapters are made for such, but it was a road call.

Contact clr works well for cleaning the oil contamination. Use the QD "safe for plastic" formula $7 per can instead of $3. 99. :(

Good luck

Gifford,

Oil on vacuum pump is most likely cause by the seal. Unfortunately Dodge's gasket/seal kit doesn't include this seal. But you can get from one from a parts house that handle seals. Just get number off seal.
