Went 52K miles since my last valve adjustment. I have 142K on the truck now. Picked up my truck yesterday and it was late and I didn't get a chance to talk to the mechanic who did the adjustment. Any mechanics here that can decipher the following for me. Set engine TDC #1 and adjust valves, all intakes were tight. Rolled engine to TDC#6 and two intakes tight one loose. All exhaust valves were close minor adjustment. So after 52K miles did I really need a valve adjustment?

Nope - in stock trim, the valve adjsutment will not vary much on our engines.

I've had 170,000 on an 89 and now 200,000 on my 96 and I have yet to find any valves that needed adjustment when checked at suggested intervals. I'm about due at 50K plus to check again - mainly to just see how clean the valve area is.

here's a photo of mine at 115K.
