DYNO Day Invite For RMTDR!

MNTDR Wrench/BBQ day!

VE44 BOMBFest - April 14th, 10 am, ASA Modifieds

It has been talked about, you've wanted it, and now you've got it!! BOMBFest 07 is ON! Oo.

Many of us 1st genners have been talking about our little VE pumps and how to get the most bang for the buck, and I decided to send the invite to anyone interested to come out to the shop on April 14th, the Saturday after Easter, for a fun-filled day of VE injection pump R/R, plus mods :-laf .

This is not for '1st gens only', though the main focus will be on the VE pumps/mods. I will be doing the mods to my own rig, and I invite anyone interested to come out to watch and/or do the same mods to their own pumps. I will be learning about these pumps as much as anyone else, so the more experience in the house the merrier.

We're planning a BBQ lunch on the grille and sodas, so plan for an all-day event.

As well, I want to ask any 1st gen VE guru's (GLHS comes to mind) to please attend to offer real expertise and experience for us beginners into the pump rebuilding arena.

Main event:

- VE44 modifications - all in the truck. No removal required.

- 3400 governor spring install

- PDR custom fuel cone install

- Adjustments: High idle screw, full fuel screw, AFC, starwheel, timing

- Intake (of course  )

Other possibilities that day (if I get the hardware in time):

- Turbo upgrades (HX-35 w/ 16cm collar)

- Injectors (PODs)

Again, I am planning each of these BOMBs to my own rig, and I offer to anyone to come down and watch/do the same mods to your own rigs. Oh, in case yer wondering, BOMB stands for Better Off Modified Baby!

Thanks for your interest :D . If you want to partake and need parts/rebuild kits, I can organize a group order from PDR for the 3400 rpm governor springs or other parts as necesary.

All the tools will be available, and if we fill the shop and parking with trucks we can have us a grand ole time. The shop is next to the house, so creature comforts and restrooms will be a few feet away.

Along with the VE mods, I also have a NV4500 and 4wd conversion and a KDP killin' planned for the rig sometime in late summer/early fall, and I can go over all the technical requirements for that swap and KDP, and will again have an open house for anyone interested in seeing how a conversion of that size happens.

The shop is located in Peyton, CO - about 1-1/2 hrs south and east of Denver, directly adjacent to Colorado Springs. The address is: 11871 Turney Rd, Peyton, CO. Mapquest takes you right to it. By then the Ramcharger will be done and it'll be parked outside as a landmark - you can't miss it ;) .

Hope to see you there!

Howdy folks. Wanted to again hit this topic. I am wanting to increase the interest in the ASA Modifieds power fest, 14 April. I definitely want to be sure that anyone interested in doing similar mods to your pumps get with me so I can get hard numbers for a group order for any/all of the following:

- 3400 springs

- PDR fuel cones

- Injectors

- Turbos

- Collars

- Gauge installs

- Associated hardware

Upgrades in all of the above areas will be performed, tentatively including a turbo/collar swap for an HX-35 and a set of POD injectors. As well, I will be installing one of our own Intakes - the whole power package.

In the end I am predicting a 130-170 increase in horsepower, a 250-300 increase in torque, and a 10-15 psi increase in boost, for a projected 280 hp/680 tq goal at the tires.

Before we start you are invited to drive my '93, which is stock save for the transmission (DTT converter), to get a 'feel' for a stock engine. Then, after the mods, you can drive the same truck to feel the difference. Without a rear lim slip diff it aught to be fun... and yes, donations for a new right-rear tire will be appreciated :-laf .

Additionally, I will be at the Mar 10th dyno day at KAZ motorsports to baseline the truck, projecting 'stock' 135 hp and 400 tq. Then, a week after our pump day, my local Mopar club (Southern Colorado Mopars) is having its own dyno day at KAZ, and I will be taking the truck back for a follow-on dyno run with the fresh pump and turbo mods. It should be a very good test comparison, and I will post all the results for those that cannot attend.

Thanks all - hope to see you at all three events!

Does this dyno use corrected numbers? Anyone know for sure? What's the elevation there? If so, I predict it will be at least 145hp.

okay (whew!) that's what I was hoping you meant :D . I was always wondering what the effects of the altitude were on a pressurized system. I suppose before boost builds up to, what is it, 14 psi (at 6000 ft?), the engines function as if they are normally aspirated, and after 14 psi they counter the effects of altitude proportional to the amount of boost? So turbo'd and blown engines at high elevation making over 14 psi will definitely feel the effects of positive boost? That all make some kind of sense? I really have no idea if any of that is accurate, but I seem to remember something about 14 psi and high elevation.

Hey, I think you and I have a mutual friend in Tom Bishop from Arkansas - something about a transmission he needs that you have and I can stash/hold for him? All good, whatever way all that goes.

Thanks - Apr 14th aught to be a fun gig.

If it's all right, I would like to bring the stuff down on Mar 10th.

The turbo will help through out the entire rpm range. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is about 14. 5 lbs per square inch. So, if your truck makes 160 hp (flywheel) at sea level with say 16 psi, another 14. 5 psi (30. 5) and all things being equal should put it close to 320 hp; 45 psi, 480 hp and so forth. But it would be losing effiency and would not be exact science of course.

If I remember right a N/A engine gas or diesel loses approx. 3% power per 1000 ft elevation. Supercharged is around 2% and turbocharged around 1. 2%.

Group Buy From Pdr

- GROUP BUY FROM PDR - Placing order on 2 Apr-

Folks, for those wanting to do work to their rigs I have arranged a group buy from PDR for the 'typical' parts for the VE44's. These are the prices for listed parts. Unless you find something maybe on ebay you won't find better prices on these parts, and PDR-modified parts are exceptionally good. Let me know if you are interested.

- VE44 PDR custom fuel pin... ... . $69 (plus $100 core charge which is refundable when we get your stock fuel pin back)

- 366 (3400 rpm) spring... ... $13

- Exhaust manifold steel gaskets (set)... . $30

- Turbo flange steel gasket..... $4

- PDR HX-35 turbo, 1st gen... ... . $600 for group buy

- PDR 16cm collar for HX-35, 1st gen... ... $140 for group buy

We're one onth away - let me know if you want parts. I will also have two VE44 rebuild kits, but more can be ordered if needed.

4 door 1st gen on Denver craigslist

Don't know anything about it but I just saw it and thought this would be the crowd to let know.

Placing group order to PDR on 2 April - let me know what you need!

For those coming out, the address is:

11871 Turney Rd.

Peyton, CO 80831

Both Mapquest and googlemaps do a great job for maps. Look for a big blue shop next to the big blue house, on the SW corner of the road... . and oh yeah, the best landmark will be the Hemi-orange / Black '78 Ramcharger out front  .

Looks to be a very good turnout. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I know Sam has all tools but if I may add, minimum suggested tools to speed things up;

Standard sizes:

7/16, 3/8 drive deep 6 pt. socket

7/16-3/4 wrenches

Metric:

10-17 mm wrenches

10-17 mm 3/8 drive short sockets

5 and 8 mm allen wrenches... . not sockets

6 mm 1/4 drive short 6 pt. socket

10 mm 1/4 drive deep 6 pt. socket

Other:

1/4 and 3/8 drive ratchets

1/4 and 3/8 drive short extensions

small and medium size flat screwdrivers

small pair of needle nose pliers

regular ol' pliers

Parts:

Fuel pin..... group purchase?

366 gov spring..... group purchase?

16 or 14 cm turbine housings?

new fuel line Cummins #3918641. Usually 93 trucks have this already. Mine and Jeremys 92s did not. After adjustment of high idle screw the pump lever will hit the metal fuel line. If yours clears, your OK.

Check the double hiemed throttle rod. They usually are worn out.

Hopefully I got most of it.

You may add :) - Thanks Kurt. I will be sure to have all of the above, and I need to double check it all. In fact for anyone coming out for this please chime in for anything else you would like to do. We'll have a lot of very capable hands in the shop and lots of talent. This should be a pretty fun day.

I will be doing the HX-35/16 combo, plus - and this is new - a full 4" exhaust system, including a custom 4" downpipe.

On top of all that we may be installing a 40/20/40 bench seat from a 2nd gen, so there will be plenty of tech on that too.

How about this too. For you 518 fans - How'd you like to have the o/d control at your finger tip verses on the dash face? Here's how: Swap out your 1st gen steering column shifter lever for the 2nd gen version, some simple wiring splicing, and done. O/D at the tip of the column lever. Order the lever from local delearship, Mopar Part number: 1-04690522AB. Cost is about $45 from any dealer. Bring it with you, and we'll swap it in. Just nuts and bolts.

Oh, and in case we end up wrenching in the shop into the wee hours... which I'm sure is likely to happen... we can put you up for the night and continue wrenching on Sunday. No sweat ;) .

For anyone going to Mad Max's BOMB-fest we will offer a before and after dyno run special. Normally we charge $120 up front for a before and after. In an effort to help a real nice local gent get a good turn-out... I will do a before and after for $95.

Here is how it will work. Before the event you will come to my shop and pay for the before and after. You will make your before run and I will give you a biz card that Sam will sign showing you were at his event. When you return for the after run you are cleared to make an after run. If you return without a signed card then you will charged the additional $25 for your after run.

If you were at my shop for the dyno day and want to use that information as your before numbers... then you will only pay the $50 difference between what you payed at the dyno day and the $95 discount price. YOU MUST GET SOMETHING FROM SAM SAYING YOU WERE THERE AND YOUR VEHICLE FOUND IN THE DYNO DATABASE FROM THE DYNO DAY!

Sound good guys?

That is a great offer Kenny, and I know I will be taking you up on it the week afterwards. For those that were at the dyno day a couple weeks ago this is a great deal for a return trip.

A few days away now - looking to be a decent day, hopefully no snow  .
