I already have the in-tank pump and it's working okay. The problem is the engine mounted injection (high pressure) pump. So I'm not sure how the retrofit differs from what I have. The truck is completely stock and there seems to be a change in the way Dodge/Cummins built the 2004.5 (325HP from the 2004 305HP. The repair shop also said the computer is working which also could have been a cause for this failure.
I've never had an issue with this truck until now. Been wondering how long the trans will last and the injectors but so far it runs strong. Got a howl in the trans when cold but it's shifting well and as it warms up the howl diminishes. Many on this forum have a lot more miles and these parts hold up well. Now have a slight vibration at 60-65 MPH but it might be tires. Drive shaft joints feel good but at 150k ???? What next? I don't mind spending some bucks on it as it has not been a problem vehicle. Like my 2014 was. Happy I kept it. And...I got to talk to a lot of my neighbors while I was directing traffic around it until the tow truck showed up. Most offered to help. Restores faith in people.
