I have a mysterious vibration that comes on at about 35 MPH and then goes away about 42 MPH. It reoccurs at 62 MPH and then goes away again at 70 MPH. It’s seems much more noticeable when towing, but I still notice it when I’m not. Does anyone else have this type of problem?

Thanks

Ron

Yes I have a vibration also, starts at 41 gone by 45, comes backs about 70 to 75. Lot of members have this problem. You can check the archives to see if any one found the cure. The shop manuals give alot of suggestions for vibrations,I alos looked at other books trouble shooting guides so I can start a eliminating process(not replacement process).
My Dad had a Mazda was clunkling and making another metalic noise when going over bumps and ruff areas on road. He took it to his favorite shop, after driving in thier lot they decided he needed to replace the front left axle or cv joint or both. My mom drove it right after, still had same problem. My dad and I took it and drove it up and down off a curve(slowly), found out what was making the pinging sound. took it back they replaced two 50 cent bushings on the transmission mounts. Which cured the the metalic sound and clunk. Of course we needed the the $300 front axle too, they said.

Me 2 - Feels like it was on the back end, starts at 38 and gone at 41, only when empty or not towing and seems to have moved to the front with a tire rotation. Think it might be an unbalanced tire or bent wheel like others have found.

Had similar problem as described with a 1992 Olds 88. Vibration went from 57-62 mph. Turned out to be bad steel belts in a set of Firestone tires. Replaced tires with Yokohamas and problem went away.

Ron,
I have the same problem and it is intermitent, so can drive me crazy. We need to stay on this one and see if we can get it eliminated.
Mine feels like it is coming out of the engine or front end, don't know which.

Just got my truck back from Les Schwab. 3 weeks ago I had my Dodge dealer replace the rear 2 rims. Both were bent (found out at May Madness). Vibration didn't go away (as per this post). Took it to Les Schwab for a 8 lug coupler wheel balance. They found another bent rear rim. They had some trade-off Dodge rims so they put one on in place of the brand new bent rim. I'll see if this takes care of the problem.

Just a side note; in my opinion I would spend the extra money and get the aluminum rims instead of the steel rims. The steel rims are plagued with problems.

The stock tires are a likely source of this problem. Besides myself I know three others whose problems went away with new tires. I think Dodge picks up their tires at a garage sale somewhere in Mexico, ever notice how the warrenty doesn't include tires and brake pads?

While tires can be the problem, out-of-round can be a bigger problem. One of my OEM tires was mounted with its high spot matched with the rim's high spot. It vibrated (bounced) for 50K miles, 'til I replaced 'em all. Chances are this is your problem. The trick is to find a tire shop that has the 'OEM matching' type of balancer. Rickson in MD have one, but that can be a long way to drive!

Also, Chrysler have long been known for using cheap wheels. They are not very round and not very true, resulting in annoying vibrations.
