After only about 20K miles my first VP failed. Dealer replaced it under warranty. They replaced the LP too just to be safe I guess. I'm not sure whether they used a rebuilt VP or a new VP when they did the warranty replacement. Anyway, their replacement VP just failed again last month with only 85K miles! I was quoted $1600. 00 for the part alone by the dealer and roughly $700. 00 to install it. I decided upon a Blue Chip rebuilt VP44 (same price as the dealer's rebuilt pump), after reading some posts and talking to Chip at Blue Chip Diesel. With Chip's encouragement and instructions, I swapped out the pump under my shade tree myself. With the money I saved in dealer labor, I bought a nice scan tool and some wrenches for the job. Hopefully his rebuilt VP44 lasts better than the Chrysler one did. It sure makes the truck run real smooth and strong.

Jeff,

I forgot to mention that yes ... . I've had a fuel pressure gauge for about 20K miles or so now to insure adequate pressure. Also installed the Vulcan big line kit which maintains 12 - 14 psi at the VP at all times, and hardy fluctuates at all under full load now. This, and I still had that Chrysler rebuilt VP go bad. Go figure!

I lost the lift pump and VP44 at 171,000 in my truck, an 01. Last week we lost another lift pump & VP44 in another 01 at 176,000.

i have a 02 cummins and my injection pump went out at 139,311 on 9/19/06 (and it was around 3,200. 00$ OUCH!) and it runs great but i need to get a fuel pressure gauge real soon.

:mad:Mine just went south at 202,000 miles; 7000 miles on a new lift pump; 5000 miles on ulsd; and 2000 miles on the Edge EZ. With heavy towing use my guess is the 202,000 miles, but Stanadyne pf from day one.

Mine lift pump has gone out 2001 / with 70500 on it . I am having a FASS 2system installed next week , I don't want this problem again . Truck is still stock except for amsoil bypass system and air filter .

23000 on the 1st one, now have 0216 on 2nd one with 56000. The 1st one failed when the lift pump failed, the second one, I'm not sure. But it wasn't fuel pressure.

Big A

Mine started having dead pedal and code 0216 at 82k, nice install then had a miss at idle on the new unit so I got a warranty replacement on it and it idles greats and runs strong. I am on my second lift pump first one died about 35k or so, second running strong ever since. Upgrade the fuel line to a scotty smart flow after the first pump. All is well now.

Dave:)
