Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP44 Return Valve

Has anyone ever heard of the return valve (banjo fitting) on the VP44 failing? I just changed my lift pump (Carter 4601HP pump on the frame rail next to the tank) and all of the fuel lines to the VP44 (full 3/8" line all the way with custon fittings). My pressures are still only running about 8psi - and as I drive to work (about 30 miles), it slowly drops about 2psi down to 6psi by the time I get to work. Stock pump was doing the same thing, that's why I changed it.



Only things I can think of are the return valve or low current from the ECM to the pump (not currently using a relay).

Well I should have one on my doorstep tomorrow thanks to Cummins ($20 vs. $38 at the stealer) - we'll see if that fixes it.



No one else heard of this???

I believe Evan Beck has found some failures with the return valves, maybe he'll chime in. For $20. 00 it's worth a try. Hope it solves the low psi's for ya .

Your fingers been burning (not your ears)? I've been taking cheap shots at you being a homebody lately



I'm interested in seeing how this turns out for you cause I have pulled the return valve out of a couple customers rigs thinking I may have a faulty spring etc. So far, not the case. I could see the return valve being the cause of strange fuel pressure readings, defueling, low boost, etc. Can't say I've found a bad one yet.
