Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP44 tester

Any body know why the cummins vp44 tester p/n 3163834 will only work on '01 and '02 trucks and not 98 1/2 to 2000 trucks?

I don't remember the number on my tester,but it works on all years of the Dodge with the vp-44

Just looked at my testor... ..... same # and it has been used on all years 98-02 CTDs

Ive been interested in one if those tools for by buisness, can you only get them from Cummins like ive heard? And how much is one gonna set me back? I heard they're in the 4-500 dollar range.

Got mine many years ago when they did not cost so much. I rarely use it but it will confirm harness or ecm issues sometimes

It doesn't so much test the vp 44 but it takes the rest of the truck out of the loop.

It can verify that a problem is in the ECM or wiring harness.

The testor supplies power and grounds needed to operate the vp at idle and slightly higher than idle
