I just wanted to say I am thoroughly enjoying your build. I think you just about nailed my dream family/towing rig. It's nice to see what it would look like and what issues will arise when I build mine. :-laf

I'll get right on that in about 10 years when I have:

1) a crew cab to swap a Cummins into
2) a shop to do it in
3) a reason to have a crew cab (i. e. more people to haul than just my wife and I).

The crew cab/Cummins swaps are threads I like to follow in hopes of someday building one of my own. For now, I'll stick with the regular cab truck provided from the factory with a Cummins.

NO offense, but WHAT fun is there in that?!?! Nothing like working in the cold for hours, only coming into the house to let you hands warm up, to make you appreciate it when it's done... . :-laf

Oh I'd have no qualms with building one in a driveway, if I had a driveway. I currently live in an apartment building, which does have a parking lot next to it, but it costs $130 a month to park there. I'm pretty sure building a crew cab (or even working on my truck, which lives at my dad's house right now) isn't going to happen. :-laf

No new pics. Spent the weekend fixing neons, mega rams, cleaning garage, etc.

I feel like a idot asking but what is the secreate in getting the dash out of the truck ?

Does the windsheild need to be removed ?

No, not normally. It makes it easier, but it can be done by just lifting or trimming the rubber inside above the dash so you can gain access to the screws.

About 6-8 screws under seal. I like the window removal method as I do not like cutting my seal.



Then the bolts under the steering column.



Then the two bolts at the side that the dash pivots on.

If your rubber is not too hard, you can use a trim tool or pry bar and lift the rubber piece and get too it, somewhat. IF it's old, you may have to trim it... ... I forget they get older every day, sometimes. But if you've had the window replaced anytime recently, and they used a new seal.....

Id shure like to save the one in the parts truck , of which will have to be pulled out to get the dash out to go into the other truck but since my luck isnt that good and im shure i cant switch the dash that quick that wont happen :-( I wish i knew a guy whom puts windows in trucks for aliving but i dont , oh well its only money !!!!!!!!!

Oh man, you're golden. Call one of the mobile services, price around and find the cheapest one, and get him to come out to pull it, pull the dashes, and them get him to either come back later in the day, or on another day. That might cost a little extra, but hey, it'd be quite a bit easier. Then there's always the risk of busting the window to get it out. They're pretty tricky. I've tried it several times, and only gotten it in twice without breaking it.

Im definately not golden thats for darn shure if it wasnt for my bartering i would not own any thing , ill have to make a call and see what the glass shop says , i got a few other task to do when the dash is out like makeing holes for the slave cylender and what not so keeping a window if i had it pulled and not breajing for awhile might be a chore .

Hmmm, you need to find one(a glass man) working somewhere and hit him up about some kind of trade. As for the firewall work, that needs to be done before you get the window going, so you don't have to sit on it so long w the window out, IMO. I'm the same way. A windshield is so big, I couldn't keep it around without breaking it. I've got a back window for mine, and all the side windows, and it's miraculous none of them are broken, yet!!! And yours might break trying to get it out. It's just one of those things.

He has a Mega cab now. Those beasts can eat up project time like it was candy.
