Good to hear about the Wally world product.I was wondering the same if it was a good product or not. The price is right and it seems to move much faster than the peek product, not that ether stay on the shelf at my local store......

At this point I will stick with Peak Blue DEF, I know now how to read the date code, so at least I can make sure I'm not getting some old stuff. I can see where price might be a concern for some, but as much as I use its not an issue.

My concern is I have had two episodes with the DEF system on my truck, and this last one was not because of bad DEF although it thru a code stating it was bad DEF.

Guess that would be me ,sorry . As I said I didn't say you're wrong just I've never seen a date code as stated. I'm a beer geek and Julian or best by or pull by dates are common place . My maga corporate job did use Julian then went to a calendar date pretty well hidden in the series of numbers. To me they don't want you to know the date code otherwise well you get it
no offense was ever intended
& thank you for you info
cheers

No offense taken, its just not that complicated once you do not how to read the code. But yes, it doesn't have to be a mystery code ,and having to find out how to read it. A simple manufacturing date would be great

I have used the Walmart brand or bulk at truck stops no problems with either. The main thing to look at is the date of manufacture, if it is over a month I pass . It is al the same if it makes you feel better to pay $3 to 4 dollars for a pretty box have at it . The dealer stuff is the same crap probably costs the most. Kinda like changing your oil at half the recommended interval, a big waste of money, oil and time but you feel better

Alright, I started this thread and I am gonna call it. I am pouring the Supertech DEF in the DEF tank, I repeat, I am pouring the Supertech DEF in the tank. Arrruugggahhh!!! Arrruuugggahh!!!

Good call, let us know how it goes. IMO DEF is DEF, and how old it is ,is the only issue. Get the most fresh you can find. I wouldn't settle for anything over a couple months old.

Looked at a bunch of date codes on the Peak, and the Supertech DEF at the local Walmart. I found some dates that it was manufactured right at the first of year. IMO thats getting a little long in the tooth for me. I am sure they will get sold to the unaware, hopefully with no issues.

I'm surprised they'd have some DEF on the shelf that long. Our local Wal-mart is not what I would say, an overly busy one. I'm in there twice a week for different things and always check the DEF shelf out (mainly to see if they will ever start printing date codes on the 1 gallon jugs of Peak branded DEF - so far over the last 6 months -No). I'd say half the time, the shelf is pretty empty and they stock the Peak 1 gallon, Peak 2 1/2 gallon box and the Wal-Mart branded 2 1/2 gallon box. So I'd say our little store goes though a fair amount of DEF per week. And from the white crust on the shelf and floor, a few of these containers leaked.

Ours is the Super Walmart , and is pretty busy all the time. surprises me they have as old, and the new somewhat mixed up. I should have written it down ,but some of the Peak 2.5 had 300 plus days remaining in the year so that would make Jan, or Feb, or possibly early Mar.

I stopped in Lone Pine @ a Chevron Gas station. They had 1 Gallon Bottles of Peak DEF on the shelf for sale for $9.95 a Gal. In the next couple of days i am going to go and get a 2.5 Gal. Container of DEF and when the garage is just past the 1/2 full mark I will add the DEF. I now have over 5000 miles on the truck (I can't believe it!) Went to Reno for a couple of days.

What concerns me is how DEF is handled through the delivery system from the factory to the Truck Stop... I assume as a chemical that has to be shipped by a tanker load, in my opinion there is greater chance for contamination than say a 2 or 2 1/2 gallon container packaged at the manufacturer and sealed with automatic bottling equipment...

In addition, we have no clue how the truck stops are protecting the product when stored.. I assume that they are not required to DOUBLE WALL storage tanks to prevent ground water contamination issues... and maybe this is all so new that these tanks are above ground.... what if.... the cap is left off... dust, rain water, etc... can enter the system... do they filter it at the pump like they do diesel...

So with all this in mind.... I'm sticking to the product on the shelf.... ONE last question... anyone when they were talking to PEAK, did they bother to ask if they were packaging the product for WalMart.... usually a manufacture will share that information...

A LOT of DEF gets sold through truckstops. I imagine if there was a common/continuous issue as you speculate, we'd be hearing about it.

I continue to not dwell on DEF. I buy whatever is cheapest/easiest/most convenient.

Kthaxton.... I agree with your assessment... but I just left a station where the delivery driver had dumped 10K gallons of gasoline in the Diesel Tank and the station has sold fuel for 5 hours before they caught the mistake.... and who knows how many pickups/trucks have been contaminated... this is my biggest fear... its the stupid mistakes and than the battle to get it fixed....

Maybe after seeing the results two weeks ago.. I'm still worried... I was in buying gasoline for my car... I honestly NEVER look at the color and smell once I see the Diesel button, the green hose and nozzle... so had I had my truck... I might have gotten the bad fuel...

Many years ago someone on this site suggested the 'sniff test', i.e. sniff the end of the pump nozzle before dispensing fuel to make sure it's diesel. I've followed that protocol ever since. Especially important in Canada since their diesel nozzles are yellow and gas are green.

Def expands if it freezes (7%-8% increase in volume). And when the power goes out, I hope the truck stops have tanks that allow that expansion to take place without breaking the tank. Still buying mopar DEF in jugs. Just in case.

I dropped 500 gals of leaded gas in a unleaded tank in the late 70's. Shutdown the stations unleaded pumps right away. Had to borrow a transfer pump from another distributor and pump all the unleaded tank into the leaded tank before putting the remained of the 975 gal compartment into the unleaded tank.

Stuff does happen! SNOKING

I would think that there tanks are below ground, so they can not freeze as they are below the frost line.
