I read so much around here that this trans blew up, or this engine makes noise, or putting out codes, or slipping clutch, or broken mainshaft, or poor MPG, or wont shift, or smokes, or drips, on & on.

I am happy with my 03. 5 Dodge Ram 3500. At 64K it runs like a truck should :)

Anybody here have the same experence?

MMeier,

That's a Good One!!!

My '03 has been OK. Have had the injector knocking issues. The dealer knew, & acknowledged, something was wrong but, couldn't do anything because DC wouldn't approve any repairs. I'm quite dissappointed in DC lack of help.

Fortunately, this, & other Dodge/Cummins related websites provide a lot of good information & I was able to fix the knocking problem by following the advice given on this site.

My A/C pump died at 47,000 miles. Well over $800. 00 to replace it. The PAG oil that goes into the pump is $50. 00 for 8. 4 oz. What's so special about this oil? If it was that good, why did my A/C pump die so prematurely?

There were a number of other problems areas that the dealer took care of under warranty. Dealer response, in my case, has been good.

It seems to me that these trucks have become so complicated that they are now rather delicate. I wonder how problematic they are going to be, in the long run?

Instead of all the "fancy crap", I wish they would build a simpler, more industrial quality, vehicle. My old '91. 5 W-250 seems to be more "bullet-proof" but, much less complicated.

Just buy a DMAX or PS if you want simplicity. 27000 miles and all is well including dealer service (Frahm,Norco,CA) who is the only dealer to touch my truck.

Mine must have been made under the same conditions. I have 36,700 miles today. I drive the soot out of this truck daily, my programmer is turned up 45% of the time. Since I took ownership 36,680 miles ago, I have only had to replace the infamous "limited Edition" plastic intercooler (My fault) Dealer said it mysteriously blew at 47 lbs of boost :-laf I am 100% satisfied with my 2005 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel & the Ram Too! ;)

Prior to buying, I read about... .

Death Wobble???

Ball Joints???

Leaking Injectors???

"White Smoke Issue"???

Poor MPG???

Injector Knock???

70 MPH Vibe???

Rear End Howling???

Weak A/C???

A/C Premature failure

A/C Door failure

"Plastic Intercooler Failure"

I've only had the Intercooler Failure, and that was my fault for having the Edge/ Attitude turned all the way up.

Lets see... ...

04 3500 quad dually 4x4, almost 200 K pulling 18K trailer 98% of the time

1st brake job 160 K

several sets of tires...

first set of ebrake shoes this week.

one clutch

changing the trans and rear end fluid this week for the 3rd time

RF wheel bearings

2 or 3 sets of Ujoints

Recharge of the AC last week... .

Thats about it in 200K.....

Mine is an early '04 and had the vibe issue. They solved it by putting the weighted power steering hose on it.

At 35K they replaced the LH ball joints.

At 42K the truck is running really well. It tows anything so easily that I would buy another one. :D

you guys also have to keep in mind that some people complain about everything and are never satisifed. Look at all the "extended crank time" threads. I don't know about you but if my truck takes a couple more rev's to start... I let it turn a few more rev's, not climb up the dealers butt. Or the ever popular "poor fuel milage" when after you get to reading it, they have 2 fueling boxes and big tires or they're mad because they don't get the 25mpg like their brothers girlfriends cousin's friends dad says he gets. Some are legitimate problems, some are just crybabies.

Amen! Most of the engine problems that have been posted were because of fueling boxes.

I am so glad that I did not add a hop up box to my 305/555 Cummins.

The only mods that I have done were the muffler eliminator, Moore eliminator air pipe, AFE filter, and the honey comb deal that goes in front of the compressor inlet. Those mods helped my MPG by 1. 5, for a total of 21. 5 MPG. Then when the diesel prices went through the roof, I backed off my speed from 71 down to 68 mph, that help 2 MPG for a new total of 23. 5 MPG  I know if I were able to drive 62 MPH I would get over 25 MPG, just cant drive that slow unless I am towing.

Don't misunderstand what I meant by that. There is nothing wrong with adding a box or 2; in fact I have 2 and a whole list of other mods along with 33" tires. The problem is with the people who do all these mods then drive it like they stole it and complain about fuel mileage and engine problems. I know people who added a small box like an Edge EZ and gained quite a bit of mileage, however they drive it right. I am the complete opposite of that. I'm real hard on tires and brakes and if I melt it down tomorrow I wouldn't be on here complaining about it. However I bought my truck to be a toy, and a toy it is. I have no idea how my fuel mileage is because I never check, it doesn't really matter since there isn't anything I'm going to do about it anyway.
