Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Water drain on FUEL FILTER LEAK

Can the small black valve used to drain the water from the fuel filter be changed while on the truck . 2000Dodge 5. 9L

Yes, I had to change mine, while traveling though montana. The dealer wanted to change the whole unit. I found a cummins shop and after searching several toolbox's they found an o-ring that fixed my problem. The o-ring behind the drain valve had failed. That maybe the problem.
