Towing

Is anyone out there towing with the two 625 nozzles, with the stage two set-up and hobbs switch? Going to get the install done here in a couple of hours or so, and I don't know if I am going to have too much water or not. Basically I will only be running on my 125 hp injectors, Box just gives me too much fuel to tow with just my hx-40/18. Also would turning down the pressure on the pump be enough to reduce the amount of water so that I can tow, because I want the full effects when I'm on the pulling track. I am planning on only running Water with no meth or washer fluid as all I am looking for is a safe way to lower EGT's, would washer fluid do a better job than just water. I know it's a lot of questions, but my truck is really busy this time of year and I can't have any breakdowns. Thanks in advance, Dean

That I know of, no one has tried towing with it yet. You and I are in the same boat, EGT control not power. I am probably another month or two from a real world test on it.

If you got the stage 2 kit, you may have to cut back to one injector for the street towing, then hook the second back up on the track. Easy enough to do by wither putting a valve between the "T" and one of the injectors or disconnecting it and plugging the line.

Why couldn't ya "stage" the nozzels? have two hobbs switches set to different pressures. How many sizes of nozzles does snow offer? Try a couple of different sized nozzels see what results ya get.

To the best of my memory Matt has 5 different sized nozzles, 625's are the biggest and that is what I run as well as most higher hp guys.

Two Hobbs switches would mean two kits (pumps). The stage two variable controller has a larger range (15-50 psi @50% pump duty cycle - 25-80 psi @ 100%)

The switches control when the pump turns on. I briefly considered getting a second kit to install primarily for EGT cooling and use the other for power - not to be used at the same time, too much fluid.

Dsteinel - You may be asking too much out of your truck to set it up for both towing and the track. You should have your kit installed by now. Give it a try to see what happens. The big thing is to know for towing is what conditions (mainly boost) you face when the EGT's get spooky. Having the system kick in below 20 PSI is too soon unless you are WOT.

There are links in this thread to a freeze point chart to see what the mix is on windshield washer fluid. For safety if you are in a climate area where the truck will be sitting and the temps could drop below freezing, you need to have some methanol - at least 20%, more if it is arctic (-20*F).

Tried that a while ago. Doesn't do jack. You can have good results by staging the hobbs to be controled in with the valet switch. Single nozzel for tow and both for full power mode. You use a flow control switch that takes the signal from your other hobbs switch. For your pressure line you just tee off of it and run one side to a injector and the other side to the flow switch and then to your other injector. Hope this all makes sence.

Well I got it installed last night and did some road testing, had to turn the pump way down with the 625 nozzles. Early test results with just tap water were a drop in EGT by about 150-175 degrees, little or no gain in boost psi and a sooty mess all over the garage door from a little goof up. I adjusted the hobbs switch down to what I thought was about 23 psi and my buddy helping with the install , hadn't seen me change it dropped it some more:eek: Started truck with stage 2 pump wide open still, and hobbes switch set to come on as soon as you tapped the go pedal:rolleyes: pushed alot of water through the motor and out the exhaust all over the garage door, never stalled the truck but sure made it run a little rough:--) . Can't wait to hook the GN up to it friday and put it under a load. I think for the pulling track I might just turn the pump most of the way back up and flow as much water as it will take and try it that way

Once upon a time long ago there was some concern of rust running water through the intake, tonight I had my intake off putting a new gasket on and there wasn't jack in the intake..... clean except some soot, like I thought no worry's and I've been running water through this motor for a year now!
