Another thing I don't understand, why does the impeller on my pump look different than the Cast / plastic or whatever material that is on Scott's pump picture. I've never seen a impeller look like what they sent me for a Cummins.
Any thoughts?

A quick shoot from the hip answer would be flow.....the 2881688 pump that both Scott and I stock are for truck engines....bigger radiators, air compressors that have engine coolant flowing through them, etc......

Probably too much pump / impeller for a pick-up truck or one ton....

That makes sense. Please let me know what your Buddy has to say about what the impeller is composed of. I guess all of the new pumps look like the picture I posted? Thanks Mike

Is the 2881688 not the one he needs? I thought it was since you posted that number. I have others on the shelf if you want me to check it.

He technically by ESN needs the 2881804. I was checking out the 2881688 looking for a non-plastic impeller in general.

I have a comparison of the 2881804 (07.5-12) with plastic impeller and 2881805 (99-07.5) with metal impeller but pictures refuse to come out right side up...have to do my orders and then I will get back to it.

Thanks again guys, I'm off to a basketball game, I'll check back, first thing in the morning. I appreciate your help.

Well this STINKS. It's definetly a trend. For the last 5+ years the Mack MP7 (Volvo) waterpump impeller was plastic. And they're known to spin off the shaft.*
Mike, I know it's a nutty request, but can you check other engines pumps as you come across them?*

I think I have four different water pumps on the shelf. I'll check tomorrow morning and post my findings.

Was on Rock, and all the 2006 5.9 pumps looked all metallic. If I had to buy one of those today, I'd probably choose the Delco. I looked at the Hemi pumps just for giggles, and the one they illustrated, had a tan imp.*
This is terrible.*

Ok, here's what we have so far......I want to stress this is for discussion purposes only at this point...Under no circumstances am I condoning or suggesting replacing the plastic impeller version with the steel version so far....

We are comparing the 2881804 (07.5-12) water pump with the plastic impeller to the 2881805 (99-07.5) water pump with the steel impeller.

The water pump housings share the same identical part number so weep hole and mounting are a match between the two.
The pulleys have different part numbers but share the same diameter. I believe the shafts are different sizes between the two which would result in a different pulley for each.

2881804 is on the left, 2881805 on the right.

Note that the 2881805 has a slightly longer shaft on the impeller side SO is there room in the 6.7 water pump cavity for this????

Again, 2881804 to the left, 2881805 to the right.....

Yes I will. I recall seeing a plastic impeller on a Detroit water pump, DD15 maybe??? I'll ask the guys to let me know as they run across them....

That's an "EA" prefix which means that is a new part with a core charge on it. I wonder if the "RA" (which would be a reman part) prefix is plastic...(or will be in the future)....

Cummins does the same thing, if part number ends in "NX" that's a brand new part with a core charge. If it ends in "RX" or with some injectors (PX) then they are rebuilt parts.

The OEM's do the new part with a core charge thing to get rebuildable cores into the system....

YucK. that's WHY I don't own any MB products ..Over engineer and over priced.. I sure how you had more the 6000Hrs on that WP, We can't even get 3000 hrs out of our Groomer WPs and its the Biggest PITR to R/R. The Cummins Groomer its $220.00 and 1 Hr R/R.. If I could only convince powers in charge to sell the MB power plants and buy Cat Cummins , I would get drunk for the 1st time in 27 Years.

Actually the pump is $265.00 exchange....but can't remember the time...

some of this truck stuff isn't really priced too bad....

We'll those groomer WPs must be special.. BC that what we pay for them NEW... the commerce Does NOT allow Remans another problem with gov powers that need to be changed.
