I think I know how Pyramids are built:D We pretty much stayed on the ground and pulled/held the sheet of tin with a rope. Except for the top screws, I used the loader and a pallet for that. We are done!

My tub grinder had a malfunction because blind bat me didn't notice the break down coming. Chain coupling for the hydraulic pump stripped the teeth on one of the gears. Now is the season so I had it air shipped and back in business again.

Been doing some fire prevention with the brush cutter this past week. For some reason the starter solenoid stuck in the on position and I burned up the starter. Sure was worried that I might have burned up the alternator and or the regulator. Woo Hoo, all is well, charges 14volts.

Did an R&R injection pump on my Bobcat Loader, 4.236 Perkins Diesel. It was making oil, so I changed out the mechanical lift pump first, no luck. I went with a recon from Oregon Fuel Injection. I did have to wait 2 weeks for them to build me one, but I think they are an O.K. outfit. About 1/3 the time and aggravation of a 1st gen VE change out.

Did an upgrade to the weed sprayer, added a 2 nozzle boom, it covers a 10 foot swath. Dang, it gets it now. Gotta get my driver to get out of 1st gear, lol. Kinda overkill at that speed. When I give her the arm wave to speed it up, she gets on the gas for about 10 feet, then backs in down again. I use 2nd gear, covers the ground. Used up 2 gallons of concentrate @$130 a gallon, it mixes 50 gallons of water per gallon of concentrate. Goat heads be gone!

I used the tiller first but it misses a lot. This was in the horse pen and he packs the ground to the point the tiller just skims the ground. It did help some and loosened up the ground for him.

I think I found out why they parked and sold this tractor, probably didn't run too well. The rag is being fished out of the tank, the filters are trashed. Tank and fuel look good. The larger filter bowl is broken, probably water.

I think I got a keeper. Changed out all fluids, filters and cleaned all screens. I do have to change coolant yet but waiting on an overflow bottle, this one is rotten. After bleeding all the old fuel and filling all filters I cranked it for about 5 seconds, no start. So I pumped the lift pump again and about 5 seconds later it runs like a new one. Everything major works as it should. I do need small items that are missing or neglected and some small repairs. The tractor is a '97 model and the inner air filter has a date of '98, lol. I think because the filter says "do not wash" it was good to go.

Cool! How much you have to give the guy to buy it?

It was a local on line auction, San Carlos Tribe in Globe, AZ. I give $2880, that includes 6.6% sales tax and 15% buyer's premium. The (35) items, were all parked for years due to whatever reason, that they couldn't fix. Nothing was a runner, so kinda scary. I drove down a few days before the auction and looked it over pretty good and took a chance:)

It is a '97, model 970 John Deere 4x4. We have a '94, 970 4x2 that is an awesome tractor, just can't pull the hat off your head:D It will become the dedicated power unit for my PTO Chipper. Don't really need 4x4 for that.

The green paint holds its value and the 70 series were really popular and continued for 10 years ('89-'98). Actually made by Yanmar for JD. All the 70 series had Yanmar engines. They all have direct injection except the little 670, it is indirect. The indirect engines is what keeps me away from Kubota for the era, they used them forever.

What I like about JD is you can still get any part you need for a 25 year old tractor and it is painted.

My 1978 Kubota B 7100 still runs great. They are SO simple to work on. Great for getting into smaller areas of landscaping. My B 21 is really way easier to run though. Absolutely love that one and prefer it for most things. Just ordered a ripper for the backhoe.

We have been working on the little guy a few hours every day before it gets too hot. Fixed a lot of neglect and bad repairs so far. I do have a bushel basket full of parts coming:) Some before pictures, I will post some after pictures at a later date to show progress. I figured the desert sun cooked the paint but I think most of it is recoverable, excited about that.

I was going to buy the yellow 970/John Deere decals...Nope....$512 each:eek:

Do you have the grille and nosecone?

Both on order, they were missing, also right hand engine skirt. Plastic fan and overflow bottle are crumbling from sun rot, so they are on the way too. Then I can change out the coolant since the radiator needs to come off.

I don’t know if you’ve ever used these guys, but they have a lot of parts for about anything. I’ve gotten parts for my Oliver from them. One of their salvage yards is in Bridgeport, Nebraska and I’ve driven by it several times. Lots of stuff there. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some 970 junkers in their system.
