It seems I am the transmission, fix it guy this year. Already 3 vehicles in shop, 2 done, latest taking up valuable space and time:(. 2 waiting. This is my home shop where my 17 gets parked.:(:(. Maybe I need to go back to school to learn how to say NO.....press 1 for espanol, 2 for francais, 3 for English. Approximate wait time, 1 year.:Do_O:D. Nah, really it has been good bonding time with son. He wanted to learn, so he gets to do most, with guidance. I like doing this, but the 442 has been sleeping in the back of the shop too long.

EEEK!!! Looks like there was a "Grind a pound (or tow) for me" incident.
Both actually. I had more chunks, but a little goes a long way.....I got the call for rescue about 10p.m. one night, long story, but all will work out. Nothing a fistful of $$$$ won't fix. This was doomed trans. 5th gear nut, low gear oil. Pilot bearing dry, interesting, no oiled clutch, so low gear oil(BURNT) took out input and then seized. He was also towing down the interstate at the time. He has always ignored my advice and had to learn the hard way. He is slow to the process.. I am the 1st to admit that I don't know everything, but I do know a lot, as do most of us. I love him to pieces, but dang he is expensive.
I told him "ain't nothin easy or cheap."
Still trying to impress on him that you don't abuse your primary vehicle.

At least it wasn't deliberate like this guy:

Now that you left the cat out of the bag by mentioning 442. Where are the PICTURES ?.

Shiner, going 6 spd this time or fix the 5 and the 5th gear nut issue?
It's the kids truck and his only vehicle now (long story), he's driving his buddies dually with the 6 speed right now. He likes the 6, but only has the funds to do the 5 at this point. I probably should have pulled the 5 outta mine and bought me a 6!:D

Oh, if only it was worthy of showing pics at this point. Needs some TLC. Bought it back in 85, wasn't perfect but complete, drove it for couple years with the 455, then a 350, now back with a mildly healthy 350 auto, 455 shortblock on stand in buddie's shop as well as many other parts.Come to think of it, I think my interior is in top of his shop...... 4 spd stolen when stored while in service. Built this small block many years ago and lost interest/things came up. Thinking if things go right this year, I may go with 6 speed in it next time. Auto just isn't as much fun.

And I keep slobbering over the offers from silver sport transmissions...….but got to deal with the communist local council on rental property changes first.

Hauled 3 loads of cow manure yesterday, 26k+ @75* the truck never got over 204*. It is a gradual uphill all the way from Holbrook to Snowflake (27 miles) with a few 4-5% grades along the way. Averaged 11.7 mpg, the '91 averaged 13.6 mpg. The transmission made it up to 190* on the last load, 6th all the way to Snowflake, then dropped to 180* on the last 6 miles home, all 5th gear road.

Leaving Holbrook you cross the railroad tracks (3rd gear) then hit a steep bridge so I opened it up a little (level 5) so I could hear that Cummins sing along the concrete walls of the bridge. Long live the 2nd. gens!

Now that is sweet.

Welp, on my second Napa recon alternator, the first one was on 2-17, 295k miles. This one died at 329k, so 34k miles, :D

So, I dropped my fuel tank again after finding David's screen plugged up in his fuel module. I was worried about nuthin:D I can see clear through both sides on mine.

David's:

I don't know about the overvalved engines, but the module screen is the first defense of grit and debris in a 12 valve system.

That's why you install one of these, at least you can get to it
