2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Westach Temp gauge bad?

I've had a Westach Temperature gauge in my '02 for about 2 years.

It had worked fine until last week. The needle no longer moves from the

resting position. I've checked the wiring from the sending unit all the way to the

gauge and it seems to be intact. The connectors on the gauge are tight.

So the question is, which is more likely to be the culprit: the sending unit or the

gauge itself? The gauge is out of warranty.

I just had my second combo gauge go bad. The first one lasted about 8-10 months. The second one only 2 months.

For one point of reference, I've had my combo gauge installed and operating for about 9 years now. I installed it at about 10K miles, I think. The blasted internal bulb has burned out twice in that time; I guess they just don't make things like they used to.

I *might* guess that the sensor has gone out. If you have a DMM, measure the resistance across the sensor when the engine is cold, and when it is hot; if there's no difference, the sensor is bad. You might even measure the resistance from the sensor to the block/head. If it is significantly higher than a short circuit, that could be the problem. Of course, you'll want to know first if the sensor can handle the small voltage of the DMM, and if the sensor is a one-wire or two-wire; one-wire will likely be grounded to the head/block, whereas a two-wire will complete the circuit between the two pins.

I know Jeff and was up to his house the day he replaced the sensor. The gauge is still working.

I have had my comb (boost/EGT) since March 2001. I have had my fuel pressure gauge since October 2004. I think Westach makes some good gauges.

Its the sending unit#@$%!#@$%!

I had two just go bad and ordered today two 399S7 and one 399S1 for back up.

Had them in for two years. At $21 a pop you would think thay would last longer

Yep, I ordered another one and installed it. Fixed the problem.

Seems that I should get more than a couple of years out of them, though
