Does anyone know of an easy way to check the evaporator coil without ripping out the whole dash???? my passenger side floor board is soaked, I pulled the carpet up and its water not anti- freeze so I'm leaninf towards the evaporator coil instead of the heater core. the ac seems to be draining okay so i'm guessing its the evap-coil. any suggestions????? thanks:(

I remember a post a while back that said a leaky center stoplight could end up with water under your carpets. It was supposed to migrate there somehow. Several guys had the problem. Worth a check.

thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply but its comming from the dash without a doubt in my mind I pulled the carpet up and you can see it leaking down from the dash area. but again thanks its always something to keep in mind.

fire803,

You said a/c is draining OK. The evaporator coil is part of a/c unit.

If the evaporator coil was leaking it would be freon. ( When warm air flows over evaporator coils it causes condensation. Of course you knew that. )

But as I recall there are two drains for the heater/ac unit (under the dash) apparently one of the drains is plugged.

With the high humidity here the drains could be working full tilt but can't keep up.

Another thought how much rain have you been getting over there.

If memory serves me correct you have running lights on top of cab. Check them for leaks (if you have them).

But on the other hand have you taken pogodually for another ride to show off the wonders of DTT hardware. :D

Ride!!!

No I have not taken him for another ride I dont want to be the cause of him spending alot of MONEY!!!! lol However AGAIN the dtt stuff is great I dont think I can brag enough about it. SEEEE yaaa at the next meeting.

Brian,

there was a post about having some of your water coming out of the drain being blown back in while driving, so if you get a couple feet of clear hose and slip it on the drain at the firewall and clamp it on and let the hose hang down a ways it can't get blown back in. This solved the problem for my wet carpet on the passenger side.

I have not looked at the drains in these trucks (never had a blockage - yet). My wife's car had a drain blockage and the condensed water from the outside of the evaporator had no place to go, so it drained to the interior floor. I located the drain hose at the outside of the vehicle and gave a little puff of air from an air hose into the drain hose. The blockage moved out of the way and the drain hose peed on my garage floor for almost two minutes!

I battled wet floors in my '94 all of last summer. My A/C seemed to drain okay because there would always be a puddle of water and a steady drip outside the truck with the A/C on.

I finally added a 12" extension on the drain coming out of the firewall into the engine compartment.

No more wet floorboards. No more tearing out the interior to let it dry.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks To Everyone
