what cheap high mileage used vehicle.?

If I were to look for a high mileage used vehicle which one would it be??

Ford Crown Vic comes to mind. They run a zillion miles and keep right on ticking. Not the greatest on fuel ecomomy but not the worst either.

Unfortanately, can't say that any domestic comes to mind if reliability is important. For a high mileage DEPENDABLE used car I would limit my choices to 1) Toyota, 2) Honda and 3) Nissan.

Also if you can find an older Dodge Ram 50 (mini truck built by Mitsubishi for Dodge from 1984-1993). They can be had for a song, are very economical, and bullet proof.



I owned a 1987 Ram 50 from 1987 (bought new) until 1994. Put nearly 200,000 miles on it with one set of brake pads, one set of tires, and a fuel filter. Sold it to a friend of mine who drive it until it finally rusted out in 1998 with 510,000 miles.

I'd suggest a Jeep Cherokee with a 4. 0 liter High Output engine. I've got 203k on mine and it runs and drives GREAT. Those engines are IMHO, the gas version of the Cummins. The rest of the vehicle is pretty bullet proof too.

Yeah buddy! Have about 330,000 on my '89 4 Runner and still going! Need to do the timing chain here real soon, tried a few months ago, but couldn't get the darn balncer bolt loose!#@$%! Put a new radiator in, new belts, hoses, water pump and PS pump. Also need to get a rear hatch and shiny bumper for it, any ideas as to where to look for those??

Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio if you want new but cheap (but still good, reliable, decent quality cars). Check out the Chevy Aveo too. Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit or one of the Scions (made by Toyota) are also good choices but a little more money. If you need a little more room, check out Toyota Matrix... my sister in law has one and it is not only a blast to drive, but it's easy to park, sips fuel, and has a surprisingly large amount of room. She picked up a brand new 2005 (loaded with sunroof and some nice options) for $14K off the lot.



All time best economy car (but not always cheap): VW Passat or Jetta TDI Oo.

If it was me, the first place I'd check would be the junkyard and see if they have a wrecked 4runner with front end damage so you can strip the parts off the back. I guess another place I would try is JC Whitney.

Buy American. Look for older Saturns 1993 to 1996. easy to work on, cheap to run... .

With my wife's 05 jetta TDI, my best tank was 761 miles @ 51 MPG. I get a kick when people say they hate me.

But the only times I've ever checked the mileage was on a couple of trips and it was 46 mpg... but that's with me driving at 75/80 most of the time.



Even the older pre TDI VW diesels were pretty good for commuters if you can find one... ... I ran a rabbit pickup for several years, mileage would approach 50

No, i mean when i tell people at work when they ask me what i get. of course they are driving around expeditions and aviators. Did you vent the tank to get an extra couple gallons in?

I did the vent mod on mine and when i filled up after the 761 miles, it took right at 15. 2 gallons if i remember correctly.

I did the "ventectomy" on mine and the most I have put in one filling to date is a hair over 14 gallons. I haven't had the guts to go any further as I could never figure out how much the tank orignally held. The "ventectomy" mod is supposed to net another two gallons.
