The only thing the 3rd gens have that I want is the QUIET Cummins. Can't believe some of you guys actually like that RATTLE!! Oh well, mine has low miles and has been extremely well taken care of so it would cost way too much to upgrade just for the noise issue. As far as power, all I'd have to do is add a set of injectors and I'm over 600 ft. lbs. so the power issue really doesn't do it either.

Do you ALSO have trouble understanding why Harley riders like the sound of a big V twin? ;)

It's still funny to me the number of former 1st and 2nd generation truck owners who poked fun and ridicule at those "sissy" GM and ford trucks concerning their new quieter engines - but quickly changed their tune when Cummins came out with theirs... :D

Yeah - I think I'll go right out and add a couple of BIG mufflers to my Harley to quiet it down,,, ;) :D

Cummins sound from 1st and 2nd Gen's is a thing of beauty. I ALWAYS look when I hear one coming.

I've owned ~30+ vehicles over the years, and eventually got tired of them and moved on to something else. Not this time.

'02 looks like a truck. Inside and out. But I mst say some of the paint schemes are starting to grow on me. I have to agree with whoever said "Dodge got it right". I am not dis'ing 3rd gen at all.

I like the look of a club cab, with the hidden suicide door. Great design. A future classic. Whats nice is how DC flooded the market. There will be many fine specimens(QC) for years to come.

And speaking os sound ooooh yeah baby rattle my cage!!!!

But today a guy with a PSD romped on it by me and sounde like s$it. That was just "not right". Sounded like his engine was throwing up as it went by. That one is better off stock.

I really miss herding the ol' Gen 2 down the road, the rear drum brakes, the convenience of having to open two doors to access the back seat, and the V44 lift pump. Oh, and the body styling reminiscent of a stretch AMC Pacer. Huh... say what??? Can't hear you. Could you pleazzze turn that off? :-laf :-laf :-laf

"Love the noise the second gens make but then again I've always liked loud rides"

Well, you MIGHT like the 3rd generation trucks - the rearend whine and drivetrain vibration makes a good substitute for the sound of the 2nd generation Cummins - just not as PURTY! ;) :p

Uh-oh, are there steering issues with 2nd gens, I didn't know and can't tell by my specimen, an '02 with rear discs. :-laf

Thats true about the convenience, but I don't want a crew cab. Been there, done that. The missing doorpost cancels out the convenience. I never considered the QC a true four door, just a club cab made more versatile.

Did they cure liftpumpitosis? I'm glad, it's about time!!

Yes, I wish I could hit the drive thru with out turning off my motor.

But I don't get the pacer slam. the hood-grill transition to fender reminds me of a mercedes.

I think your just giddy from owning the best pick-up on the market today, second only to the '02 it replaced. :-laf :-laf :-laf

My wife likes the look and seats of the 2nd gen trucks. I too like the seats and interior better in the older version. I suppose the quieter engine is fine for many, but I like the clatter of a 12V. The hoursepower and touqre of the 600 is very impressive for a stock truck, and is just the ticket for the guy's that leave them stock or those that have warranty shock. For me, the 12V is and has been capabile of much more power then that of a 600, so the power issue is not an issue. I bought a Cummins because of it's reputation for power full and long lasting diesel engines, it just so happened that Dodge was the only source. I also intended on getting my money's worth, that means I bought this truck to keep for awhile. I cannot see why so many have to run to the nearest deal every time a new or different model comes out? I recon it's just fine for Dodge and the guy looking for a bargain? I can't see throwing your money away like that, don't get me wrong, It's your cash not mine, and I like to spend some myself... . just like seeing where it went and for what. I'll keep this truck till it rots, or I die first. Looks, seating and all the other subjective areas aside, the best part about my 2nd gen truck is it's PAID FOR.

Wait,

I thought of another one! I like the 2nd gen valve covers better. Cheesy plastic breather cover belongs on a chevy. (I know the new design has less issues with "spooge", though).

Dave

"Found an answer to that thing, here are the new 3rd gen valve covers"

Well personally, I think it's a dirty crying SHAME ya gotta pay EXTRA to get the same valvecovers that come STANDARD on the 2nd generation 24 valvers... :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

:D

Just ribbin' you. No complaints what so ever about either the 98 or 02. :) In fact, if I'd had the foresight to have gotten a 3500 DRW quad 98 or 02 I'd still have it and be a happy camper. :p
