What Do you think it'll cost to...

Drive from Northern California to western oklahoma and back ?I am trying to save someone the $1000+ freight charge of shipping an engine. . and told him fuel cost would be fine if i brought it to him. What do you all think. . half that amount seem fair? it's 1,580 miles each way and the truck gets roughly 500-550 miles per tank.

The current US government mileage rate for private vehicles is $0. 445/mile. That figure is usually cited as the standard when requesting reimbursement for driving. It covers only vehicle expenses (fuel and maintenance), not hotels or meals.

Seeing this is a buddy run $550 is about right for fuel assuming 18MPG get him/her to throw you an extra $200 for meals and motel (just don't stay in any 5 star places) and load up and go.



If you were doing it for business I would be charging them right at $1800 ($1. 20 per loaded mile)
