Alright guys I am begging for help, please. It's a 1998. 5 24 Valve Dodge Ram 2WD with an airdog lift pump that supplies 12-15 PSI. About a year and a half ago I replaced the VP44 from RPM Diesel in Fort Lauderdale, recently when truck is up to temp. and in park or neutral or decelerating it has a real obvious miss, all most like a gas small block with a mild cam in it. To date I have replaced the tps and when I did checked the voltage reading that was in the specified range, cam, crank, transmission speed, neutral safety sensors. cleaned all electrical connections, battery grounds, etc. Today I went to advance and used their scanner and this is what it displayed on the screen.

 P1693 1 of 1

Mod $D1

Mil Fit in comp

Module

Mil code 223 enhanced

Excuse my french, but what in the HELL #@$%!does that mean I have looked in my Hanes manual, and the scanner manual and couldn't find anything telling me what this means. I really like my Cummins but this is getting ridiculous and making me want to run around in circles, screaming, pulling my hair out. I refuse to take to a dealer because around hear when you do they just throw part at it, one would think they would be competent in their product, yeah right! If I can't find what is causing this problem or is related to my VP44 I will do the P-Pump conversion, because I am not spending money again for an inferior product.

Per the code book, P0223... Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch B circuit High Input. The 1693 is Turbo charge control circuit?

also, if you have a programmer of some sort, try removing it. I used to have a superchips programmer and ran it for a couple years, then one day the truck started missing real bad almost to the point of shutting down. Threw no codes, removed superchips and has run fine ever since. I still use that programmer for diagnostic trouble codes, thats it.

AFaustini,

You can ignore the P1693 trouble code. That's simply one computer module reportng it detected a trouble code is set in the other computer module.

How many miles on the engine?

I can think of several things that might cause such symptoms...

A worn injector (or two) that isn't popping open properly or closing cleanly.

A malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor and/or crankshaft position sensor (if your engine model year has one).

John L.
