I had a wheel squeak that would come and go. As I had 77k on the clock I figured it was time for brakes (80% of the miles are highway). It didn’t squeak in a straight line but did on turns. I took the truck to a parking lot and did hard turn up against the stops in both directions. The squeaking then got real loud. I changed the brake pads they had not reached the wear indicators. I took the truck out for drive and the squeaking was still there; the squeaking was still as described above.
I took the wheels, calipers and brake pads off. I spun the rotors by hand, straight ahead no squeaking. Turned all the way but not up against the stop it would squeak but only at one spot in the 360 degrees (right side is the squeaker). Everything feels solid, no run out in the rotor. No signs of damage or leaking out of grease.
After reading all the threads on squeaking I figured it was the u-joint because there was no pressure on the bearing when the truck was off the ground. Not having the tools needed for the job, I put the truck back together and the next day drove down to the dealer. The squeaking had stopped. As it was raining I am sure if the squeaking stopped before or during the trip to the dealer about ten miles. I turn around and went home and went through the same routine. No squeaking. I went to a parking lot and made tight turns up against the stop at twenty miles per hour for about two or three minute then the same think in the opposite direction. No squeaking.
I only difference it the moisture. It rained hard during the night but it just sprinkled on the drive. Don't have the grease notice by the radiator nor could I find the picture needle grease point.
Does any one have any idea as to what happened? Is there still a problem with the u-joint or bearing?
