Well now I know that, that is a loaded statment in several ways. As I have gotten a lot of good advice from questions I have asked as well as what questions others have asked. I have a 93 W250 club cab truck I purchased just to get the Cummins engine and never thought about kids. Now that I have a 7 week old child we are thinking about moving into a 2nd gen truck to get the quad cab. I have had my truck for 1 1/2 years and have spent a lot time and money on this truck. The following is a list of work that has been done on the truck.

Engine: (front and rear crank seals replaced after getting the truck)

Rebuilt: vac pump, power steering pump, radiator, turbo 16cm exhaust housing (ported and polished)

New: water pump, fan clutch, belt tensioner, belts and hoses. K & N Filter

Transmission:

Rebuilt: Getrag (local transmission shop had some NOS Getrag parts)(all brass, bearing, shift forks, syncos

New: Luc Pro series clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing and pilot bushing

Transfercase:

Rebuilt: full rebuild kit

New: both front and rear output shafts, and idler shaft replaced

Front Axle:

New: 3. 54 gears, bearings and shims, king pins on both sides, brake calipers and pads, turned rotors

Rear Axle:

New: 3. 54 gears, bearing and shims, new brake shoes

Suspension:

New: Front springs with add-a-leafs for 2" lift, spring bushings, Rancho shocks front and rear

Steering:

Rebuilt: West Texas Off-Road rebuilt the power steering gear box about 6 months ago.

This a short list of what has been done to the truck. I have also replaced everything on the crusie to make it work as well as a new speedo drive unit. The AC system has been gone through and works fine. I installed a set of late model 97 Gen 2 leather power 40/20/40 seats in the truck. Everything works on the truck and it is pulling down 17/18 highway. What is wrong with the truck is the body. I have found NOS rocker panels to replace the rusted ones. I also have 2 new front fenders and well as a drivers door. The truck will also need a diffferent bed. All the glass is good. The truck has a heavy duty front and rear bumper that will also go with it. It runs great and I really don't want to sell it. I put new Toyo 305-75-16 on about 5000 miles ago. All the work that is listed has been done in the last 10,000 miles. The transmission and transfercase only have about 2000 miles on them since they were rebuilt. I really don't have any idea of what it is worth. I know that is hard to price something with out see it. I have put more money into this truck than I will ever get out of it. Right now the only aspect left is getting the body ready for paint. Is $7500. 00 to $8000. 00 out of line for what has been done to it? Sorry for being so long, and thanks for all the help. If any one is interested I can work on some pictures as well. Still just thinking about what to do!!!!

Why Not (Chris)

In reality, a rebuilt drivetrain wont take up the slack of a bad body. If it is dented up and has rust, that will drive the price down. A few pics would really help, and I may adjust my estimate after (if) you post pics, but I am going to say it is a $4500-5500 truck. No more than $6000, tops.

BTW- how many kids are on the way? Seems like you could put the child seat on the passenger side, let the little woman ride in the middle beside you, and you wont have airbage to worry about bashing in the kid's face. I'd keep it and find a way to make the car seat work. A quad cab may be nice, but can you find one for what you have in your 1stGen? Also, they have enough of thier own issues. You know what you have with this one, and except for the MPG (aint horrible, aint great, either), it sounds like a good one.

Aesthetics is the main reason people buy things, unfortunately your truck looks pretty bad and is also very old, two conditions that would warrant a low selling price.

Unfortunately most of the work you have done will not help you in the selling price. A old truck needs work, and most of what you have done is considered regular or at least needed maintenance. The fact that you did much of the work will usually not help, as most would rightly argue" what credentials do you have, and how do they know it was done right".

I would not expect much over $4000. 00. And you can pretty much fore get about a trade in, as you probably already know. If the truck means anything to you, then you may just want to keep it and use it till you get your moneys worth out of it. This would be the wisest choice.

NADA says $5,625 to $7,625 if it's in good condition and there are no major damage. I'd say start $7,600 and adjust the price as needed.

90% to 95% of the work has been done by a local shop that can support the work that was done. Most of what I have done was because I wanted a new truck. In general the truck needed the work I did, but did not need the extent that put into the truck. Thanks for the imput I will keep thinking.

Just the one kid, but with kid and mom in the front seat there is no easy way to get to the back of the cab without unloading everyone. One of the biggest problems that I keep running into on the 1st gen truck is the lack of support when looking for parts from the dealer, or parts store as most of them have been discontinued, but I do still like the truck.

Why Not (Chris)

Put a bench seat in the rear and let junior (juniorette?) ride there in the middle. I've got a 2nd gen gasser,(club cab? quad cab?) a '95, no rear doors. It is a little tight getting the 18 month old in and out. The 4 year old scoots over to his side ok. The biggest thing I see is no leg room! The little one pushes on my seat, and the big one can't sit behind me with the seat all the way back, just enough room for his legs!

I wouldn't spend more money to up grade, unless it's to a mega cab, or a crew conversion. My $. 04!
