Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) What might this be

My wifes 01 is having some problems. Some that I cant figure out. Cold start in the morning (around 30 outside) there is excessive blue smoke and running like the timing is way advanced (the idle jumps up and down) for just a few seconds. Afternoon cold start (around 60 outside) it sounds like it is missing not jumping the rpm up and down but just rough idle. My wife said that it feels down on power and just not its normal self. The FP is like it always is in the 17-19psi range. Boost is normal. This may be totally unrelated but when I was trying to figure it out I turned the box on 1x3 and when you reved it up a couple of times it went into limp mode but as soon as you let off again it was fine or with the box off it was fine.

This may be too obvious, But have you checked for codes? Key on, off, on, off, on and leave it. Pause for about half a second in each position. Read your odometer for P codes.

Yeah I did check for codes and nothing.

David... could be a bad comp box too call up Edge and see if they can help you. Only other thing i could think is the VP is dying. . remember my 02' died with plenty of pressure from the Holley pump i had on there :{ Good Luck!

On my '01, my edge EZ went out and I sent it out to Edge to check it out, and they sent me a new one. The symptoms I had was it would actually shut down while driving. When it was ready to shut off it would throw alot of white smoke with poor power before dying. Put the new on in it,and has been working good for a long time now. I too first thought my pumps were going bad.
