The only time I would even think of using synthetic if I was in temperatures 0 or below 0 . As states in the manual. We get down around 10 here, on occasion .I am changing mine tomorrow 3 gallons of 15-40 T4 Rotella . 12.97 per gallon at Walmart![]()
Yup, I bought the 5w40 as a mistake. I had every intention on going with 15w40. I just get so excited on Amazon with that 1-click ordering.Next time I need to verify what I got before draining my existing oil.
What method?

It's only been debated / discussed no less than 999 times that on a 2013 & up 3500 truck OR a 2014 & up 2500 truck the new frame enhancements are the source of no longer being able to service the oil filter from below. Your 2013 2500 still has the old style frame. The transmission (G56, 68RFE, or AS69RC) has ZERO bearing as to removal of the oil filter from below. On a manual transmission truck it is easiest to put a filter wrench cap on and go straight up through the bottom.(Ratchet and a couple of extensions) I don't know if there is something in the way (preventing access) like transmission cooler or cooler lines on the automatics.
Changed mine this afternoon. Went from 15W40 to 5W40 since we are getting below 0 now here in Colorado. Through the top, no spills. It is a pain having to remove the intake to get the filter out. Put the winter cover on today as well.
No ! No ! Don't let some of these guys hear you saying that its a pain to remove the intake :-laf
Ok, ok, not really a pain to remove the intake, just added steps. Really only took a few minutes to remove.![]()

Look on AMZ/OIL site and they call out either the OE or Universal ATF. Yes I did just the aMZ/OIL Universal Synthetic ATF in the transfer case. I will be using it in my Aisin this spring when I get back to my home shop.
I've always used Mobile1 in my vehicles, it makes a noticeable difference on cold winter mornings, and after seeing this, I'm glad I do.
