Just curious what everybody is getting to there VP and how they are holding up(the VP44 that is) and are you having hard starts?

To Make it quick and easy you can post answers in this order to simplify things:

Schrader psi pre filter/at VP (please note):

At Idle

25sec. pump cycle (motor not running after you bump the starter)

WOT if you wish

Miles on your VP44 or Miles on your last VP44 at the same PSI (if applicable)

Hard starts Yes/NO

psi after filter= 19

psi at idle = 19

25 sec pump = 17-19

WOT = 17-19

miles: 80k at this pressure still running original VP

hard starts = no

Schrader psi pre filter/at VP (please note): - at VP

At Idle - 20 psi

25sec. pump cycle (motor not running after you bump the starter) - 20 psi

WOT if you wish - 20 psi

Miles on your VP44 or Miles on your last VP44 at the same PSI (if applicable) - 188,000 (123,000 at 20 psi)

Hard starts Yes/NO - only if I try to crank the engine while the pumps are cycling - if I wait for them to shut down first it lights right off

21psi after filter

17 at WOT

108,000 on original VP

never a hard start when I haden't messed with the fuel system(i. e. injector swap or fuel pump change)

Try a hobbs pressure switch to delay the fuel pump comming on and it might be easier to start.

15 @ Idle

13 @ Cruise

10 @ WOT

(All measured @ 'after filter' fitting on filter canister)

I don't mean to be long winded but I may have a problem based on what pressures I read about on this thread. I just installed Westach 30 psi gauge within the last couple of hours. Used the 30" hose from Geno's which connects to the Schrader valve. Ran 22 gauge wire from left front fender, where I mounted the sending unit between the battery and headlamp, to the gauge which is installed in the covey hole by the passenger airbag disable switch with the gauge mount again from Geno's. Followed recommendations and hints etc. to a "T".

I just took it out for a short test drive and I had about 14 psi in the driveway at idle. Took off from my driveway and proceeded to watch the fuel pressure drop to 6 psi and below. Perhaps as low as 4 psi. I'm heading out to NC for the races in two weeks with our fifth wheel which weighs approximately 11,500 pounds. I have been reading about the VP pump and lift pump problems and need some advice. 75,000 miles on truck and everything stock except for AFE filter and gauges.

Could I be seeing some pressure restriction at the Schrader valve connection? I ran it finger tight and then another 1/2 to 3/4 turn per Geno's recommendation. No leaks at Schrader valve or sending unit that I can see and I made sure to purge air from the hose. Not pleased with what I saw.

19 PSI @ idle at VP

19PSI 25 sec bump

15-16 PSI WOT

3000miles on new VP

NO hard starts on this VP. (Had hard start on last VP with same setup)

Stock lift pump setup and I have 14 PSI at idle

Can pull down to 7 PSI WOT.

43k on original VP(knock on wood)

I plan on installing the Vulcan kit in July when my warranty is up.

Ramtuf1 - Those of us running more than 15 psi all have some modified our fuel delivery system in some way. With a stock system that's about all you'll see. At one time DC said no less than 8 psi at the VP44 and that is what I still go by today. Now they test by volume and I would bet with a low of 4 psi you'll be well above their volume cut off. What you definately don't want to see is 0 psi at WOT.

Wildcat stainless fuel lines

Idle - 16-17psi

Pump cycle - 17-18psi

Cruising - 14psi

WOT - 10psi

145,000 on VP44 (stock), 3rd LP with 30K on it

No hard starts, although it will crank a couple of extra times if I don't pause to let the pump shutoff on startup. Although with the Smarty, the key-on bump only runs for a split second.

My last stock LP had 17 @ idle and 7 @ WOT new. That didn't last long!

EXACT same here ...

wildcat's big line kit ...

that's with Jammer 4's

measured at inlet to vp-44

original vp with 126k, second carter

no hard starts

for what it's worth i can make a WOT run from zero to 115 and will still have 2-3 psi at the end of the run, the truck dyno'd 505 then backed it up with a 503

Thanks for the quick reply as I wasn't sure I should ask the question in this thread. I remembered the reference to the pressure lower than 8 PSI and I was under the impression that I am going to have to do something. Believe that I'm going to the FASS system but might wait until August when I'll be near Jennetty Racing and may have them do it.

I'll leave you guys back to your post. Thanks again...

Fuel pressure

Ramtuf1, Check your fuel filter. I am on a trip right now and I noticed my fuel pressure was gradually getting lower . It would run at about 7 pulling the trailer and go down to 3 when I stepped on it. I always carry a spare filter and I changed it. Pressure is right back up where it should be. 14 at Idle and 10 at cruise. The filter had right at 10,000 miles on it.

Stock pump and VP44 8000mi on each as replaced by Dodge under Warranty. Vulcan relocation done after replacement. 14. 5-15 psi at idle after engine warms up

14. 5-15 psi at idle after engine warms up

12-13. 5psi WOT under load

after filter

psi at idle = 15

25 sec pump = 16

WOT = 7

miles: 40k at this pressure still running original VP (3rd lift pump)

hard starts = no

Edit: LOL :) Guess I still have the 25 sec feature.
