I have a 2002 3500 4x4. I was wondering if a BFG MT 255/85 R16 will fit on the stock rims. Will there be a problem with the duals rubbing each other in the back? I want a little bit taller tire, but can't find one that isn't wider as well. Any help is appreciated.

I have 235/85/16 on mine and there is less than half and inch with them at 80psi and a load.

I don't think 255's will fit.

255's might fit ok as the back spacing is deeper on the 01. 5's up

the old rigs can go to 235 from 215. . so my guess is the new rigs can go 255's from 235's

Tim the toolman, has 255/85/16's on his 3500 4x4. I think it is a 01. Send him a PM, he will let you know all about it. I don't think he had to modify anything.

Now you done it

all right, after seeing that pic I definitely need a set of those. I always thought bfg's were gonna look funny on my truck, but they look damn good on yours. Thanks for the help.

Another alternative perhaps?

You might want to also consider the 19. 5 inch Rickson setup (225/70R). I have these rims on my 2001 3500 4x4 (see truck profile below for full details) wearing Yokohama TY303 rubber and am well pleased

I would love to switch to some 19. 5's but the funds will not allow it. So stop trying to pressure me into buying more stuff that I already want. You guys already got me to start bombing when I said I wasn't going too.

Goddard, 255's are 1. 34" taller and 0. 78" wider than 235's if you do the math, but on a truck am not real sure if those numbers hold up. I'm guessing mounted on the same wheels, you will get an inch of height and an inch of width.

The actual dimensions of the tire are not what the math would tell you, of course...

Aaron - Both Randy and I have the 255/85R16 Mud Terrains on our 2500's. I measured the actual dimensions, and they're about 31. 5"-32" tall by about 9. 5"-10" wide installed. Hope that helps.

Back in '97, I put 255/85's (approx 33x10) BFG MT's on my dually with stock rims. Because of the amount of weight I was constantly carrying, I chose to add a 1. 5" spacer to make sure the tires don't rub. I now run 285x75 (approx 33x11. 25 different brand tire) and still have plenty of clearance. The spacers have never been a problem and I've maxed (overloaded actually) the trucks carrying capacity a few times without problems. Just thought I'd mention the spacers incase you haven't thought of it.
