tie down car to trailer questions

IFTA fuel tax

So, I'm cruising to work up I-35w. I see this F150 with I think a 16' toy hauler type, but it's for work, so I'm assuming it full of tools and not 4wheelers. I didn't catch the name on the truck, but it was a company deal.

Anyways, the F150 was loaded in the bed and I'm sure not loaded correctly in the trailer. The truck was sitting on it's bump stops! If it was at night, he would be shinning his headlights on the stars! It was stop and go traffic, but I should has heck wouldn't wanna be around this guy, in snowy roads, at 55mph.

What do you do about these morons? Calling the cops and make sure they get pulled over and checked about all that one can do?

I'm all about not being careful! That's me, crazy.

But stupid and un-safe is just plain dumb!

Anyone else have some interesting sights of poeple way over loaded for the wimpy 1/4 and 1/2 tons?

Mind my own business and stay out of their way!

Little Johnny was sitting on a park bench eating one chocolate candy bar after another. An older gentleman sitting next to him said "Little boy, eating one chocolate bar after another is not good for you"

Little Johnny replied "My grandfather lived to be 93 years old!"

The older gentleman said "Did your grandfather eat one chocolate bar after another like you are doing?"

Little Johnny replied "No, my grandfather minded his own damn business!"

One minor difference. Eating a chocolate candy bar doesn't jeopardize anyone else's life and safety. The same can't be said for a severely overloaded rig operating on public roads. If this rig is on the road near my wife and family, it has just become my business.

I see it all to often. And not just overloaded and under trucked, but speed. Ive seen the half ton trucks pulling way to much trailer at speeds way over the limit. Swaying back and forth at 75 mph on the b rated tires and soft suspensions. I stay as far away from them as possible. I refuse to let there foolishness put my family in danger. Bill

Nice!

I suggest shoot the offender's tires out. The investigators will never know the difference between a blowout and a hole from a gun. Just kidding! Don't do this!

I agree with this concern, and I've often wondered what my obligation to the driving public is when I see a grossly overloaded vehicle. I see a lot of them, and it's very scary to be around them. As much as I hate being behind them, I'm equally scared to be anywhere in front of them.

True but it isn't nearly as unsafe as those that pass on a double yellow or simply cut over the double to your side, drive way over the limit or drive while drinking and nobody chases those a-holes down.

Civic duty calls for action when you feel life is in danger. Very simple. I usually Mind my own business, but when some moron goes weaving thru traffic at 120, I call him in and report his position as long as is safe to do so. And as an EMT, I really dislike cleaning up the messes these people cause.

Sorry to be so serious, but it's a serious topic, eh?

As for the drunk drivers, I have many time called the police and reported these morons that are obviously messed up on something when they can't drive straight. I do follow them, and I do get them pulled over and delt with.

One got away here in MSP, due to 2 factors, GF (we haven't been dating that long yet) freaked out at what I was doing and WOULD NOT take the phone and be a relay as I was driving, so with a massive U-turn in my truck I lost him in the residential are since I drive a stick and that's hard to do with one hand on a phone.

Second factor, the cops took 10 minutes to get in the area!

I hate one way streets! btw :)

I suppose Detroit cops are just as bad if not worse if it's not an "office is down" call :).

There is a fine line here between stupid and just careless. I'm ok with careless solong as you are under control. I'm not ok with stupd.

If I see something that is not right, I call it in. Especially when I see small children bouncing around in the back seat w/out seat belts on. (Yes, I used to stand up in the front seat of my parents car when I was young, but that was careless and stupid on their part. ) Call the local authorities and put it in their hands. It just may save some major grief for someone you know.

For my parents, I was the first to be car seated. I always rememberd, and have it engraved in my head to put a seat belt on.

As for the STATE telling me to put on one, well, I tell them to screw off, it's my life here. But I make it my choice to do it, cut's it's stupid not to. (another thread!)

But yeah, I agree you should be buckled up for one main reason, Innovation! Look at a car 35 years old, didn't they just start putting power breaks on them then? and the people who owned the new power breaks grew up on non-power-boosted breaks? I maybe be off 10 or 20 years on that one.

My point, using brakes for an example, is that if you take a car with human powered breaks, vs. a BMW M3, or Z06, the stopping distance, and work on the driver to stop the car is night and day! Back then, people compasated for breaking distances, were not going to tail gate cuz they couldn't stop! In comparison to todays cars. you can get a way with not rear-ending someone at 80mph if you in a vette that can stop quicker then a 1 ton truck.

That is why you see a rise of deaths in cars now vs. then. This is why we should buckle up more so now, then then.

Me being a youngen, have driven a few trucks and cars this old and can understand why. :)

ok, not totaly off topic. But it is a good point :)

Back to the overloaded topic... ...

Do I turn them in, no. Do I stay out of their way, absolutely.

I'll admit I've towed too heavy with my truck, as heavy as 30,000 lbs gross. You can bet I wasn't doing any swerving around or tailgating though. Didn't even make it up to the speed limit. Why did I do it, because it was the best option for what I needed to get done. Would I do it again, yes. Do I want sombody to turn me in, definitly not. My $. 02

If I'm at work at I pull them over. If I'm on my own time I'll call it in to the local dept.
