I ordered DD3's, TST timing box, ATS manifolds, and

south bend dual disk clutch for my 03'. I have the

TS fuel box and an air box on it now but don't know

what turbo to buy??? I don't what twins and don't want

the truck to lag. The only turbo i think will support

this is the B1- kwik spool. Is any one running this turbo?

how much boost and HP's. What is the cost???

PM Joe Donnelly and chat with him on your application. The Piers units are great, as well as Diesel Dynamics units. Joe will help you ferret out the best unit for you.

03 turbo

I have an 03 SO with Diesel performance unlimited injectors(200hp) and a qaudzilla box and I have the KSB1 and I boost around 53 and the turbo lag in almost none. I love the KSB1 and would recommend it to anyoner.

Does Diesel performance unlimited have a web sit?

What are you seeing for EGT's?

Where did you buy the B1 and how much?

200HP injectors??? Is that backed up by any dyno time? Do they have a website?

Thanks

Can you give us a report on what temps are on the B1 while cruising down the hwy? I have heard it runs a little hot on the bottem. I know you probably don't see 1400* WOT but how about while towing. I have heard the B1 sux for towing.

I had a DD HX40 on my 01 and it ran very low cruising temps and topped out at 1250* WOT. I am looking for the same type of application and am looking for the best turbo for me... .

Go under the "member list" at top of page and search for Joe Donnelly. He is probably the most educated on the subject of making power posting on a regular basis. He does not pick sides just the facts mam..... Maybe he is the Joe "Friday" Donnelly of the TDR. :D He has an 04 that has lots of goodies under the hood. He has Dynoed it a number of times and will tell you his honest opinion.

03 turbo

dieselperformanceunlimited.com is the website. The only dyno numbers I have where in Vegas in Nov. I don't have a stock dyno but am told a SO auto should have been between 200 and 220. With the injectors, turbo and qaud box, 4" exhaust and an airbox and a rebuilt transmission it dynoed at 459. Joe D was there and I think dynoed about 15 less with a 6 spd. He said that was about 30 less than at DD. My exhaust gas temps are a little high just like everybody's third gen. With the box off I can tow (32000 pounds) up 6% grades very well but if I don't watch it Iwill get to 1300. I do not try to haul with the box on. If someone ever gets a box out with timing that doesn't throw codes this will help out alot. I do not have a problem with towing with the KSB-1 at all. If you want to get a price on a KSB-1 call Kenny at Turbo Auto Diesel(he is the one that builds them) at 602-272-5311. I agree that Joe D is very knowledgeable but he is also very loyal to DD. DD is very good but there are alot of others out there that are as good or better. Just my opinion and you know what they say about that.

Hmmm I'm not coming up with anything (nonexistant website). Can you go to it and then paste the link? The only Diesel Performance Unlimited I find using Google is the former Dr. Performance shop here in Pasco. http://www.thelocalbbb.org/commonreport.html?compid=20000918

With your mods do you think you're on the upper side of the KS-1? Have you thought of the B1? From what I understand the KS are smaller on the exhast side to help spooling but don't flow as much compared to the bigger units but I am not that familiar with this turbo line.

My temps are very low. cruising speed with box on and DDII's is low 600's, towing I run at 800 to 1000. I only get to 1300 at 90+ MPH WOT.

What temps do you cruise at?

I do not have a problem with towing with the KSB-1 at all.

You just said that if you don't watch it you can hit 1300* That is too high for towing. What are the temps empty? The B1 line seems to run hotter at cruising temps right? That is what I am trying to find out before I get a new turbo.

I really doubt these injectors make that kind of power. From what I have seen DD makes very good injectors. I believe there hp numbers are accurate. I have never seen Dpu injectors for sale anywhere, but DD's stuff is on Piers website not to mention others. They must be doing something right.

Just my opinion. :)

03 turbo

Greg, you ONLY get to 1300 running wide open throttle, what is a high number if only 1300 is low. If I am cruising empty between 60 and 80 mph. I run between 600 and 850 depending if it's flat or I'm going up 6 to 7% grade,I didn't realize you all were that interested in what the temps were just cruising empty. I don't really do much cruising when I'm going down the road at 32,000 pounds where I live you are either goiung up 7% or going down 7%. When I do hit a flat stretch going 60 to 65 it will run from 800 to 1050 depending on the little grades, it will only hit 1300 going up long grades of 6 to 7% I was just giving you extremes.

Dan you are right about DD injectors and other people selling them, I never said they were bad, I don't think you should be so quick to judge DPU, you said yourself you never heard of them or does that alone make them bad. Also Piers sells the B-1 turbo do they sell the turbo that DD sells?

Vaughn, I don't know what happened to the DPU website I'll try and find out. It is the same outfit that installed Dr. P stuff before I guess that is enough to condem him huh. Maybe you should check and see what Mark at DD did before he hooked up with Lawrence. I have had a B-1 on my truck and it had to much lag, I don;t think I'm at the upper end of the KSB-1 because I know of people with 550 to 600 HP running this turbo. These are all just my observations so think what you want. There are alot of good people out there and alot of bad just be carefull and find someone you are comfortable with. JUST MY OPINION.

JOByrne,

Thanks for all that.

I have been led to believe that the KSB-1 wasn't a great towing turbo. The temps you say you experience are very tolerable to me. Anything is better than the little stock turbo. I have wanted a B-1 for a couple of years and still might wait to see what the timing boxes have to offer. If they can really send out 150+ HP I will need a turbo and a clutch. Thanks again, Greg

JOByrne,

I have DPU injectors and a KSB1 built by Kenny. My HO does 460 HP and my buddies SO does 431 HP w/ just injectors and an EZ. I think his injectors are bigger than mine, but I didn't know DPU put 200 HP injectors in the 3Gen's. You also pull more boost than me, my HO hit 48. 1lbs. boost today on the X-monitor. I'll have to ask Scott and Chad here in Pasco, WA about your injectors on Friday, when a bunch of us go their to DYNO our trucks. Do you have a 1/4 mile time recorded?

Joe , I am a friend of Ben's but my 03 is black, Alan Walcott is the owner of the truck you are talking about. Blake, these injectors came out of Chads truck I don't think he made these for anyone else. The best 1/4 mile time I have is 13. 59 at 99. 89mph, I weighed the truck at the strip that night and it weighed 7986lbs.

I just went to the TDR get together in denver. If I recall correctly ATS is coming out with a two piece exhaust manifold with a larger flange to accomodate their larger ceramic ball bearing turbo. It supposed to be almost lag free. He said look for it in mid June to July at around 2400 dollars. It making me wait.
