Time for the first wax, been using good old fashioned Turtle wax but I have been eyeballing some of the new spray on stuff. Any of those products work as well as the old school wax?

Krabman,

Sorry, it should be www.zainobros.com

Loren

Krabman,

I tried some of the "spray on" stuff on my '95 Impala SS. I don't like it that much. It seemed to leave a "moisture" streak behind which was really hard to buff out of my Dark Cherry Metallic paint.

I switched over to the Zaino Bros series of waxes and won't ever use anything else. I think their web site is www.zainos.com, and you might even find a supplier in your local area. It took all of the swirl marks out of my factory paint on both my Diesel and the SS. I'm going to use it on the wifey's Durango this next spring.

krabman,

I finally tried Zaino's this summer and I feel it's the best polish out there. And I have tried LOTS of polishes.

You are wasting your time polishing the truck without going over the truck with Clay. I tried Clay Magic this summer too. I wish I had found it along time ago.

For my money, Griot's Garage "Best of Show" wax is tops! I've tried 'em all and this is by far the best. They have a website www.griotsgarage.com. Their stuff is a little bit pricey, but if you are a fanatic it's the best.

Have to agree with you there. I use it on the vette and the truck. Griots is the best I've found so far.

Zaino is good but too much time and too many steps.

Wax

Griots garage ' Best in Show" is outstanding and easy to apply. Stay away from silicone based waxes like Turtle or Rain Dance, etc. Carnauba based waxes or the Zainos polish are great also. My only complaint about Zainos is its long dry time in any kind of humidity but multiple coats do not lead to build up and it is really killer on the finish. I recently found in my garage refrigerator an special formulation from Zymol called Fantasy that was developed for C5 Vettes- I used it on my C4 when I had it. A very high carnauba content so it is labor intensive but Big Green looks great. Zymol makes a formulation called Titanium for 4x4s which is allegedly a little more resistant to plant saps and other things in the environment but any Zymol wax would be good.

I use this orange bottle from Walmart called nucar finish. (I think its called nucar.

anyway, its real easy to use, comes off fast, don't care if its in direct sun. I think its a poly coating more then a wax. It last a long time. I also use it on my fiberglass RV.

I ain't showing my Ram, just driving it. Its going to have bugs, chips, and I found this wax really does cause water to bead for upto around a year.

I know there are several steps to the Zanio's but is not one of the steps a filler. This will make your scratches disappear, but they will reappear in time as it wears off.

I remember when I called Zainos the gentleman told me if I had quite a few swirl marks and/or scratches, which I did, to use 3M's swirl mark remover (which is a very mild polish). I called quite some time ago so their product line may have changed?

I am happy with 3M's line of products. One you get it polished out well, all you need to do is keep applying coats of wax every so often (this is assuming the finish doesn't get scratched up again in the meantime).

Ok, since the truck wont make it into the garage and I have a weather window today Im going to see what I can find in town. Might not get another chance before I go back up North.

you know I just went outside and thought the same thing. Its 48 or so here in SE PA, but calling for snow Christmas day.

I bought Permashield from someone here on the TDR. It did a great job and is supposed to be resistant to chemicals, etc. I work in a fatty acid plant and there is all kinds of crap that comes down on my truck now and then. This stuff seems to hold up good.

MOTHERS products I find are the best around. After a good waxing, every other washing (be sure to use MOTHERS car wash) i use their Clear Reflections wax. Easy on and easy off. After using the Clear Reflections, I have noticed that just using the hose rinses almost all dirt and grime off the truck.

I use a hand glaze also, I get it from the body shop that my buddy works at. It is purple and smells just like a plum. I can't remember the name of it but it is amazing for removing swirl marks!:D

When it comes to waxes and polishes, am sure there are many good products out there. I have used Nu Finish Polish (orange bottle, available at Wal Mart) for about 10 years and have been pleased with it. Use it on a fiberglass boat as well as my vehicles. Used paste Turtle Wax for years before that and found the Nu Finish much easier to apply and that it lasts longer (for me at least) than wax. Because it was easier to apply, I found that I did a better job of keeping vehicles polished. There was an article in an automotive magazine about the time I started using a polish rather than wax and apparently a lot of the waxes do not last on a finish as long as a polish especially in really hot weather. When the temperatures get really hot, some waxes will last only a matter of weeks on a vehicle finish. Polishes at one time were pretty abrasive, but that is generally not true now. Nu Finish is not abrasive, I found it to be less abrasive than the old Turtle Wax.

I like that stuff too. Easy to apply and last a long time.

Zymol's Destiny is the best I had ever used, but it is spendy. Just under $600 and you get two uses, but it is a deep deep shine. If you want for $1600 you can get Zymol's Vintage.
