Whatcha gonna do with your Cummins when the truck rots away

I wonder if it will fit in my 01 polaris sportsman 500 HO. I figure the 500 is a HO my 5. 9 is a HO it should fit right?

Hey Sageair - how about a progress report on the 'ole 6. 0. I haven't noticed but 2 reports. I enjoy knowing how your truck is doing and personally wish good things for it. Let me (us) know.

The 6. 0 has 33,000 miles on it now. No new problems but still plagued with the original problem of no power below 1800 rpm. I'm reluctant to have it reflashed because of the horror stories I have read with reflashes causing more troubles than they fix. Mileage hovers about 17 mpg which is pretty good for a 10,000 lb utility body truck. It continues to be a nice cruiser but is lacking off road or low speed towing. To sum it up I guess I would have to say if I was buying a new Ford and was given a choice between the 6. 0 or a 7. 3 I would take the 7. 3 in a heartbeat. Oh yeah air filters still cost $105. 00

I'm going to keep rebuilding the truck. A ongoing "restoration". Already started with the '95.



What can fail that can't be fixed? atta boy.

Buy a new Ford and swap engines. I figure a well used Cummins ( 500k +/- mi ) will run better than the Ford.

I have thought about the ford thing. Might not be a bad idea. You could buy an 03 lemon for cheap and drop in a cummins. If I had enough money Id prolly do it. Ive never been much of a dodge guy. Ive enjoyed my two dodge trucks and as long as they keep the cummins Ill keep buyin em. But is sure would like a SD with a cummins.

Rot away? In this climate if you take care of them they will last. Sometimes if you don't take care of them they will last anyway. There are still a few '50s Chevys running around here that look pretty shabby, but still go.

We in Colorado have the beloved Magnesium Chloride that CDOT likes to use as a deicer. People are saying that it eats away at everything including wiring and seizes your lugnuts on to alloy rims. I actually just got rid of a pair of polished alum. rims because they were getting stained. I can't say that I have had any of these problems, it just leaves a slimy white residue everywhere. Just need to keep everything cleaned off.
