Beware!!

My good fortune!!

My buddy at work has a 2004 2500 Ram with a Hemi that has about 6000 miles on it and wants to switch to synthetic (AMSOil). I told him I wasn't sure, but I thought you need to wait till at least 20,000 or 30,000 miles for the engine breaks in before switching.

Am I right, or will it be OK for him to switch to synthetic this early on?

Gassers are a little different. I've found new vehicles tend to 'loosen up' noticeably around 10K miles. I'd wait 'til 10K, then switch everything over to Amsoil: engine, trans, xfer case, diffs. The new Dodges *may* even be able to use ATF in the power steering; if so, he can Amsoil that, too.
