Well maybe just "trouble": look at the "Class Action Lawsuit" GM has going on over their 8 Speed Shudder TCC slipping transmission now. Flush with better oil and then if no fix maybe replace the Torque Converter...
Bluntly they have enough trouble figuring out how to use all 6 gears, now. If I could still physically shift a MT I would be doing so.
A friend just picked up a 2017 Powerjoke with 6-Auto and we discussed this.
Said he was running with a friend of his in a ‘21. Said the other man never pulled ahead (not a race, both truck drivers), just that the other guys truck spent a lot more time shifting.
That it was noticeable.
Granted, both were empty/solo.
Same model spec.
Note to non-truck-drivers:
Loaded, the guys with 13s leave me behind everywhere it counts with this weirdo KW 8-speed. When it doesn’t matter at all . . I can leave them. (Narrow power band).
There are times I get tired of a LONG HEAVY man trans pickup. Usually because I’m stuck in D/FW traffic with a LONG list of stops. Health & age drag on me.
Heading west across the Brazos River is another story. Same with backing my trailer or maneuvering thru a fuel stop.
5+1 is okay, but it’s the Auto equivalent of 3+1.
That second OD AH64ID was teasing our brains with awhile back sure stuck hard in mine. 5+2 Manual really would be “perfect”.
There’s a couple of times I’d be so tired coming home out of the oilfield Pete that I’d be floating the NV-5600 gears on the way home . . till the moment I realized it and graunched the next one (ha!). A big heavy Baby 13 won’t ever be in my future.
5+1 works. But the 4+2 Auto is extra-easy to live with (ricer boys excepted).
The Auto big trucks have to use brakes (all disc) to break momentum. Why your trailer needs them (second importance).
