When does everyone suggest changing the stock shocks on my 02 4X4 CTD?

Any suggestions on whitch shocks for better ride? Oo.

how many miles do you have on the shocks? i am replacing mine today with a set of bilsteins that are rated for over 8400 GVWR, they are good oem replacement shocks, IMHO, anything is better than stock shocks, they arent that expensive to replace, i went to off road warehouse, go to the bottom of the page, they have a link for TDR members, click on that and they have the oem bilsteins listed, and you can buy them as a set of 4. if your running a lift in the front of the truck i would checkout thier 5100 series shocks, they are black and silver compares to yellow and blue. they are just as good if not better than the oem bilsteins. ill have a post up later today on how i think about the oem bilsteins after i install them. good luck.

As a rule of thumb, I always tried to change the shocks around 45-50K miles.

FWIW, Im already planning on replacing the stock shocks with Bilsteins on my 05.

A friend of mine replaced the shocks on his Class A motorhome with them and said the ride was greatly improved. I figure if they work that well on something that weighty, they should be great for my truck.

I changed the fronts on my '02 this time last year. I had about 80,000 miles on them. They were shot. I went with the Bilstiens that Geno's carries. The ride is fine. Remember, it's an 8000 pound truck with an 1100 pound engine up front. To make life easy, remove the shock towers and the lower shock mounts, then wrestle with the upper shock mounts on a work bench.

I replace shocks when I'm bored and have money to spend on the truck... or when they're really shot.

I've just never seen a real difference in my truck after a shock change. I suppose the Green one is due--it's nearing 200k. :p

When they're worn out, which on the factory shocks would be about 30,000 miles. They're pretty crappy.
