Competition NADM / COMP D Invitationals

Competition 11.33 in the 1/4 with a vp-44 diesel only

The East coast and West coast diesel power challenge has been won by d-maxis both times. There has got to be some better suited dodges from here that could take it. Just wondering where are the top notch cummins powered trucks at. People are going to think that the d-max might be a better motor than the Cummins.

I don't see how anyone could consider it a serious competition with some of the competitors that were invited to compete. My daily driver simple dually could do better than a couple of the trucks in the competition. On the other hand, you can't take anything away from Tomac. He's a nice guy that's paid his dues to get where he is. He has a great combination.

I agree! I'm just having a hard time to unconfuse them right now when the maxis are taking first in a diesel power challenge.

Dmax is a good all around package. Tomac has done his homework and I think he must sleep with his truck. I really think he knows it that well. At lots of the pulls that are just for fun, he seems to experiment with different tuning. Also years of pulling doesn't hurt either.

I'm thinking TJSHOTROD will have a better showing next time. He just got his transmission done a day or two before the competition and probably wasn't quite used to it. Still had a pretty good showing.

Me and the guys at work thought it was hilarious that Tomac walked all over the other trucks at the Diesel Power Challenge Sledpull. Just goes to show to bone head mentality that exists in the Dodge world:

"I'll put twins on and it'll be the baddest thing around"

Right...

ROTFLMFAO!! :-laf

Well it was open to all competitors, you just had to fill out the the form. I pretty much figured Tomac would win it, I just don't know too many dodges around that do both the drag racing and sled pulling. Seems they choose one or the other.

I said it once before I let all you guys down on the west coast challenge. Not to take anything away from Nick but I had 2 driver errors that cost me the West Coast title. 1 was my drag comp was off for my first pull and I got like 5 or 6. On the 2 pull I beat everyone by 10 feet. My 2nd error was I left the line to easy in the trailer tow test because my transmission was 2 days old and I did not take a trailer to LA. I kick my self all the time for losing.

I would expect that the DMAX mill has considerably better flowing heads than the Cummins. What gets me is these articles that talk about guys REBUILDING the DMAX motors with heavier rods, pistons, etc. The Bentz's have run their motor two years on the stock block! The Allison trans is a plus too. Notice the low ranking of the Phurds though---------That's funny :-laf

Don't forget, that challenge was designed for Tomac. Since we've known him, what has he done? Raced, and pulled his back up tow truck to the pulling track, with the puller/racer. Experience is hard to beat, when the HP is similar.

Y'all are just enjoying the fruit of Dodge's decision to put a true heavy-duty motor into a pickup.

Now if we could just get Chevy to start sellin' em with JD I-6s, that'd be killer. :-laf

I don't think the independant front end could hold the weight. :-laf

Are there any videos of the competition floating around. . I saw Moss (I think) with his dmax pulling the bobcat. Scared me seeing the trucks trying to launch pulling the weight. . Made me cringe. . Awesome though. .

How 'bout this----truth or myth-----inline 6's will (generally) pull a grade better than a V8 all other things being comparable. Truth or myth?

"All other things being comparable" is the problem.

It would take making two engines of each configuration, same cubic inches, and same stroke, to make heads or tales out of it. With the current designs, the I-6 almost always has a longer stroke (Dmax is 4" bore x 4" stroke and the Cummins is more like 4" x 5").

I don't think the question can be fully answered because it's practically impossible to hold everything "equal. "

You'd also have to have the exact same drivelines, gear ratios, etc. , to prove the point with any kind of science.

It's all good though, lets us all argue about it forever :)
