Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Where can I purchase a bracket for relocating the lift pump?

Do most fab your own brackets for mounting the fuel pump on the frame rail near the tank? Or does an aftermarket vendor already make a bracket for relocation?

I can make fab up the longer electrical line and connector, gather up the fuel line fittings, but I'd rather buy a bracket.

Searched the world over (archives), but couldn't find the answer.

Run over to Home Depot and buy a Deck Joist Bracket, L Shape. The work perfect and can be bought with the the change in your pocket.

Thanks Jeff,

Do I need to isolate the bracket (and pump) with a rubber pad (between the bracket and frame rail) or can I just drill and bolt on directly?

Also where is the best place to mount along the frame rail?

TIA

Jon

I dont see any reason to isolate it, I didnt and dont seem to have problems or excess noise. As far as where to mount it there are lots of great places on the frame rail back by the tank. Each trucks probably different differing if they are Xcabs or 4x4 etc..... Mines a long bed xcab 4x4 and I mounted mine on the inside of the frame rail about 1 1/2 feet in front of the tank. Its a perfect fit and sees some protection from the transfer case right there.

The best thing I found was to come up with the idea and have the local metal fab shop make it for me for $10. The lift pump bracked I designed is shown on the right and mounts to the transmission cross member and not the frame. Its design inherently absorbs vibration as does the crossmember before the noise gets to the frame.

This is the shot after I drilled my holes and painted it. What you dont see are the spin on filters fore and aft the lift pump.

Thanks Neil,

Nice work.

Why do you need a filter before the relocated lift pump (the stock design doesn't), are you trying to further extend the life of the pump?

TIA

Let me dust off my old thread on why I did what I did.

Lift Pump Longevity

Basically I wanted better lift pump life, better fuel filtering for both the VP44 injection pump and the Carter factory lift pump. I'm giving the lift pump clean and equally important water-free diesel. My lift pump does not have to work hard to "suck" fuel. And filter changes (and lift pump replacements if ever needed again) are simple in this location. Less mess = less cursing by me!

30 micron filtering/water seperation to me was better than the screen mesh in the in-tank module. The screen mesh is now gone which required me to lift the bed and pull the module. 5 micron after the lift pump is better than the OEM requirements. Thats gotta be worth something.

I kinda went to the extreem on this. For what I invested I could have gone with a FASS setup... which wasn't popular here at the time or well known.

But I like it and its really doing an excellent job some 8-10 K miles later.

I made some AutoCAD drawings of mine both 3-D and 2-D. 2-d drawings show location of bracket on frame rail relative to access hole. My design incorporates a mount for a Stanadyne FM100 pre-filter/water separator. If you're interested, PM me and I'll mail 'em to ya, but have patience-I'm getting ready to take off for the holidays starting very shortly and the only place I am able to plot (print) AutoCAD files is from here at the office.
