Where do you mount a CB Antenna on a 01, 3500 quad cab with power mirrors ? Also what is the best CB antenna out there ? I kinda like the K40

I mounted mine on a stainless steel fender bracket on the drivers side. It mounts with a stainless steel bolt in the first hole in the fender away from the windshield. It lines up with the radio antenna on the passenger side of the truck.

I run Cophased dual areals mounted just off the toolbox at the rearwordmost part of the bed (Closest to cab) using two FENDER MOUNTS that fit perfectlt between the bed and toolbox.

I mounted my Cobra high gear on my toolbox in the center of the back of the box... . right there in the middle of the little DeeZee plate :-laf

I think I might have a picture in my gallery, check it out if you have a t-box.

here's mine. you can see the two wires that i ran underneath my carpet-up and through a gromit i installed on the backside of the cab. the bracket is mounted to the front of the bed with caulking around the bolts.

antenna mount

:D CrewCabDiesel! What you need is called a stainless steel

hood mount. any CB shop should have one.

hope this helps. OL Ratlr

It attaches like STG2500 said.

Oo.

Firestik makes a stainless steel mount for Dodge Rams. It bolts to the hood hinge. Makes a nice clean install. Check their web-site: www.firestik.com . Look at products, mounts and accessories, then Dodge Ram hood. I think this is exactly what you're looking for. -Glen

I would not own a firestik, except to whip a dog, no offense... I have a 480 Channel, CONNEX 3300 XT-HP radio, with Galaxy 88 Finals, a Texas Star 400 Watt High Driver Kicker Amp (Shhhh... . dont tell!!) RK56 Chrome mic, Chrome cord, chrome Peterbilt Toggle Switch knobs for the CB Knobs, and a Chrome Case on the radio... The best kind of antenna is a Wilson 5000... . Plain and simple... I have tried them all, and Wilson, by far is the top dog..... I also have a Custom whip from "Clay's" shop out on I-20 west of Ft Worth... . I got it a while back, and I can push some juice through either one of my antennas... . with a firestick, I would melt them as soon as I keyed up... . As for the mount, go behind the cab... . that is the best spot... . Preferably up high on a headache rack... . that way it will utilize the truck and reflect the signal off the metal, which is a good thing. Just PM me if you have any questions... . I am really into having these big radios, being able to earn the names like SQUELCH MONSTER, because I can walk over any squelch, and also talk almost over anyone else.

I mounted mine right in front of the third brake light. I did a lot of measuring before I drilled that hole in the roof. It is the best way to mount an antenna. I use a Wilson 1000 and it works great. No leaks either. :)

heh charlan, where did you mount your ts 400? i have a ts 400 but not a high drive i am going to put behind my north star with a wilson.

we just tested some antenna's. and the wilson 1000 was buy far the best for swr's. at 150 watt's a wilson 2000 was 1. 4. a k40 was over 2. 0 firestick was about the same. i also tried a larson with no luck. the wilson 1000 is getting around . 2 swr at 150 watts, this antenna is the cats a$$ if you don't have over 1000 watts. they are expensive but well worth it. i use a ranger 6970 for this testing.

I just mounted the sock warmer under my pilot's seat... Even though it is always on high power, I like it there..... Its just like having an EDGE Comp Box... . Why turn down the juice?? :D :D Exactly... . No need to. . When people on the big road tell you to turn your radio down, turn up the mic gain, and play with them a little bit!!! At least that's what I do! But the answer to your question is under the pilot's seat! That's my $. 02 worth!

If you have the power to run it, the Wilson 5000 ROCKS!!! If you are running under 3000 watts, I would go with the 2000 trucker... . there is a short whip trucker as well, which has a long shaft, as opposed to the 3,5,or 10" shaft... . the main thing, is to get the center load of the antenna up above the cab, otherwise, your SWR's will be sky high. Keep that in mind... Also, when mounting in the bed, go between the front, and middle, as you will be too close to the cab... Otherwise, if you have a headache rack like I do, you can mount it way up high!! :D PM Me if you have any questions.

The hood bracket from firestick worked ok with the K40 but it didn't look good. All other antennas where to close to the cab causing the signals to be reflected and killing the swr's. If it's a toy radio (low signal) then not a problem.

I tried wilson 5000, all size firesticks, K40 fiberglass, K40 Trucker, K40 Trucker rabbit ears and some no name brands on all different locations on the truck.

The best results came from mounting at the rear bed door. From that location I received near 1:1 using a hatch door mount from http://www.cometantenna.com/mounts.html

The down side -- It looks great but is in your way when the door is open. The up side, since I have a cover on the bed I was never sure if I closed the door. Now I look for the antenna to be sure :)

I used a small bracket from the same place to mount a scanner antenna at the quad door. No drilling.

CUMINNTSTRKN -- did you tune any of the antennas in the test or were those just the results out of the box... seems like you should be able to get the swr down on all of them.

In regards to the actual subject line on where to mount an antenna... for performance, the higher on the truck and the larger the plane the better... so how about on the roof centered w/ the truck (not the same as the center of the roof, but that would be good too). Wilsons are great, but it's a lot tougher to get into a parking garage w/ them on (the roof?)... a Firestick fender/hood mount fits a lot better... so maybe the best antenna also depends on how you plan to use it.

I checked with two seperate meters. Two things I didn't want to do -- Drill on the roof and since I deal with parking gates go up to high.

The last time I mounted on the roof I got a whistle / drone from the mast that drove me nuts. It's not like you can move it once you drill there.

For verification I went to a CB shop at the local truck stop. They couldn't get various rigs and various antennas below 2. 0 at the cab

That's alot of SWR's!!!! I have mine FLAT!!! Like a dead person's Heart Rythym! It's all in where you have it mounted, what type of antenna, and making sure you have a minimum of 18' of coax going to the antenna, WITHOUT winding it up all bunched together. this allows the signal to jump from wire to wire, causing signal loss. I have 2 AWESOME Bombed CB's, and would glad to talk more with anyone with questions.
