My ATS was awful!!!!
Sorry to hear you had troubles. What didn't you like? So far mine has been flawless. It is tight and it shifts solid. The lockup controller is a must for any transmittion.
Jerry J,
Good to hear you found someone. Hope it works out.
Well it started out good. The transmission performed well and then the 5-Star started acting funny. It would always lock hard and jerk the entire truck. I soon learned to live with that but then the transmission would slip before the TC would lock-up. Once locked,I was fine. Pulling my small trailer was becoming a hassle trying to accelerate to just 25mph... ... ..... the point at which my Co-Pilot would lock up the TC. I had to drive the truck like a manual transmission and I did that for so long, I continue driving it like that with my new transmission. The heat created by the transmission slipping got way too hot and the problem got worse. I called a few times over there and they were willing to help but at my expense of shipping. After 3 different parts that they sent and I installed... ..... all three were simple sensors and one was a spring of some sort... it was determined that they needed my transmission shipped to them. $450 at my cost!!!!!! After reading all of the hassles with ATS on this and other forums, I decided to just let it go and get a competent builder do the job.
I was told by my installer... ... ... who just so happens to hate ATS as well... . that he felt the problem was in the 5-Star. IDK and never will. He sold my transmission as a used one with a new triple lock convertor after it was determined that the filter and pan had no metal in it. I was just done with the whole mess and couldn't do without my truck for that long. With my truck out of service for a month, it would have cost me more than $6k anyway so I decided to just give Dave a call.
