With the new lift pump, the ol truck was feeling pretty good. :-laf

It did however seem as though it wasnt blowing much if any smoke. No matter how hard I tried. :D

That's because the exhaust system blew out behind the muffler. :{

What exhaust systems are you guys running, and what's a good price?

I plan on getting the cam plate in it with gov springs added also, but my truck is mostly a tow vehicle right now.

When/if I get back to work, it will be a commuter.

I guess with those mods and bump up the timing it should be in the 400hp range.

I'd like stainless, but I'm a little short on bux right now. :(

Any reccomendations?

Eric

BTW it's a 1998 12 valve QC long bed 4x4.

I like the 4 in MBRP SS T409 system price. Not much more than the aluminized exhaust. The MBRP SS T409 turbo back is $439 and free shipping at xtremediesel.com where I got mine. Here's a link to the exhaust:

It fit great with the rods welded to the pipes not to the clamps like some systems. The rods are made to fit onto the donut rubbers on the factory hangers. Just 3 pipes plus the muffler. Add the 5 in T304 SS tip for about $60 and it looks awesome. If your in the rust belt add another $300 for the best SS T304. Gets you over $700... too pricey for me.

I'd recommend exhaust band clamps instead of the typical U-bolt type exhaust clamps which crimp the two pipes together making it impossible to remove later. Got three 4 inch SS T304 band clamps from NAPA for $10 apiece.

For 94-98. 5 trucks you'll need to replace the rear exhaust bracket with either the factory 1999+ version or one for $37 as indicated on the exhaust link I gave you above. Wasn't fun drilling holes in the frame to add that bracket.

The worst part was removing the old exhaust. I'm told a sawzall is the tool of choice here. I used a hacksaw... I wouldn't recommend that... it took forever. :{ That's why I put exhaust band clamps back on. ;)

Good luck,

Dave

I second that and i also like the MBRP mine is a custom jobber but i have heard the MBRP and LOVED the sound

Pics of MBRP Exhaust.

Well, Here's a few to get an idea of MBRP. In one of the pics you can see my old rear hanger that I haven't removed yet and the last rear hanger on the tail pipe near the rear wheel which I had to add to the frame. I got the double wall 5 inch T304 SS tip. Looks cool I think.

The 3rd pic down shows the rear hanger rod hanging on the last rear bracket which I added to the frame siderail near rear wheel. The 4th and 5th pic down show the 2 shiny rivets on that old last exhaust bracket which has the rubber torn off. Its near where the exhaust tailpipe makes it's turn behind the rear wheel into the 5 in tip. That was the old bracket I no longer use cause I had to add the new bracket on the frame rail beside the wheel. Hope that makes sense.

Enjoy,

Dave

ANSA system anyone?

Anyone running this system? I'm told they designed the MBRP system for MBRP, then MBRP went & ran with it.

It's SS 409, not completely polished, but comes with a polished tip & muffler.

This place (close to me) has it for $410. 00 shipped on sale, and when I spoke to them they said they can do something towards a TDR discount.

http://www.shopdiesel.com/index.cfm/action/productdetail/product_id/1140.htm

They told me that if I can live w/o a polished system, this system is built better than the MBRP and a little cheaper plus it includes the polished Stainless tip.

Whaddya think?

That looks just like my MBRP except for the slightly polished finish on mine. By getting the $60 tip free your saving about $90 over my system. The thing is you want to be sure your getting a good muffler. The muffler is the key component in the system as Mark Craig posted earlier. Is it the same muffler that MBRP sells? If it is then it will be about 30 inches long. The longer the better for sound damping. Ask what length the muffler is. Also is the tip unpolished and T409 also or T304 like mine. A polished tip is nice since thats all you see.

Looks like a good compromise over an aluminized system and at a good price. It's almost $100 savings over MBRP but you only want to buy one system, so make sure the muffler is up to snuff.

Good luck on your decision and let us know what you get and how you like it.

I dont know if it's the same muffler, but I asked if it's a stainless muffler and he said it was.

It sure looks like the MBRP dont it?

Or maybe I should say the MBRP sure looks like this one? :-laf

Guess I'll be ebaying the stones tickets... ... ... ... ... ... :{

I agree with Mark and I have no affiliation with his company but I've seen him offer good advice here. I searched a long time on TDR before I picked MBRP. Over all it seemed to be quiet and most were satisified with the form, fit and function. The muffler ( to me) was very important cause I didn't want a very loud system. I picked MBRP cause it was a respected brand and the muffler was not too loud and others were pleased overall. To be honest, some out there will really trash MBRP and some will rave. I've noticed that with alll exhausts.

All straight thru mufflers IMHO can exhibit drone from what I've seen and read about but I've been happy with my MBRP exhaust. It's very personal and probably dependent on the particular trucks resonant characteristics IMHO. I noticed a drone around 2,000 RPM but both me and my wife did not find it objectionable since it was not noticible all the time, it wasn't too loud, and it sounded cool and throaty.

Why don't you talk to Mark Craig at MBRP since he's willing to answer your questions... and see what kinda deal he'll give you. The advice is free and freely offered so you got nothing to lose. Mark is highly respected on this site. My exhaust looks good and really sounds good with the high flow (AFE Stage 1) intake air filter. I'm glad I went 4 inch.

Decisions... decisions... decisions... . I went thru the same thing when I bought back in December.

Hope that helps some.
