OK, stupid questions here

since my lift pump died i now know the importance of gauges

my question is which one to buy, a 0-35 boost, a 0-60 boost

and what kind of egt gauge to buy.

i like the autometer so that is the brand i am probably going to go with

my truck is stock with no plans for major up grades, i just want to watch my basic operation

thanks guys

Don't forget that all important fuel pressure gauge. I've got a Westach 0-15 in mine, mounted down by the transfer case shifter.

Hopefully I'll have some pics up soon of how it's mounted. Or, you can take a look at my setup sometime when I pass through Waxahachie.

I also have Autometer EGT and boost gauges waiting to be installed if you wanted to take a look at them in person.

Something to think about I am definately going with the 0-60 psi boost because the stock motor boost I think somewhere around22-25 psi and if you are thinking about doing any mods like injectors or a fuel box, then you will need something over 35 psi. I really like the Autometer Cobalt's on their web page www.autometer.com they are sweet however they don't come in boost over 30 psi. look at www.enterpriseengine.com they had DiPricol make them some white face gauges with blue numbers and they are sweet looking. I am going with those b/c they have the 0-60 psi boost I want a good gauge but not somehting that looks cheesy. They are supposed to be gettin the fuel pressure gauges in on monday or tuesday. I would recommend them.

ok i guess i am stupid

I thought the boost gauge and the fuel pressure guage are the same thing

what exactly does each measure and which one tells me when my lift pump is going out?

aggiejustin: i would like to see how you have your gauges mounted, let me know next time youthink you are coming through wax.

thanks

The boost gauge measures the pressure of the air that you are providing the engine at the intake. Boost is a good indicator of how much fuel you are using, the more boost you have, the more fuel the engine will accept.

The fuel pressure gauge that is recommended to be used measures the pressure that is being generated by your lift pump. You can tap into the fuel system before or after the filter to take your reading (I have mine tapped in at the inlet to the VP44 so I can see what my injection pump is getting). The fuel pressure gauge tells you how healthy your lift pump (and filter is you mount post-filter) are.

I'll be passing through Waxahachie late next week probably. Hopefully by then I'll have received my pillar mount (and have it installed if I'm lucky). But if not, you can still check out how my FP gauge is mounted and take a look at the Autometers.

that sounds great justin

let me know when you are coming through, i may also need some help to see when i install this stuff, i am pretty mechanically ignorant. . so i might need lots of help

thanks guys

does the fuel pressure gauge need to be mounted under the hood or can it be mounted in the cab... one of the guys here at the station thinks they can only go under the cab

When dealing with electric gauges, you will want to mount the sending unit under the hood somewhere. The gauge itself can be mounted wherever you wish, as long as you can run the wires from the gauge to the sender.
