How much to pull

Optima Yellow Top in Travel Trailer app

I would put my vote in for the 6 speed 3. 54 combination. Our truck is still bone stock and we pull a 48' enclosed 2 car race trailer loaded with cars, tools, spares, etc. Total weight of truck and trailer is about 24. 5k. Our truck pulls great at this weight. The 6 speed gives closer spacing between the gears and IMO elminates the need for 4. 10's.

At first I thought that I had made a mistake by not getting the 4. 10's as it didn't seem to pull well enough with the 3. 54's. But as it broke in it became obvious to me that we had made the correct choice.

And when I get it bombed the 3. 54's are even more the better choice!!

IMO=In My Opinion... . H= humble

I have the 3. 54 at 21k it feels the weight.

When really loaded, I downshift. When I'm empty I wish I had a Seventh gear.

I'd probably complain about a silk rope too:)

IMHO, the best of all worlds if you're really pulling heavy would be the 4. 10's with a 20% overdrive for running empty. The US Gear unit would give us an effective 3. 28 axle ratio when engaged. Heck, it's only money! :rolleyes: ;)

You are correct! Lots of gear choices with that combo. My next bomb!

Anyone know of a used USgear overdrive for 2wd NV4500 around?
