Double Towing Laws In Your State?

96 Dodge CTD v.s. 2001 Toy. Tundra

I posted here because I want some opinions of people who tow. I love to hot-rod too, but I bought my truck to tow my 3-horse trailer. I am just curious what size turbo housing you guys are running. I need to lower my EGT’s because I have an Edge COMP coming tomorrow along with 4” exhaust. I would like to change the housing at the same time as my exhaust. I have a 12cm now and I am not completely sold on the HX-40’s with a manual for towing yet.

Thanks,

Eric

14cm

Towing a hill with a load I can get into trouble. A 16 would probably be better but most of my towing is in the winter so I'm not going to change it.

HX40, no problemo!

Here be manual transmission & HX40 & absolutely un-recommended amounts of fuel. :D I can get 1500 degrees now, but with the 380hp plate + injectors, no CAT, shorty 4" muffler & the HX40, I figure I was easily over 400hp. I got 1300 degrees max. That's up hill, in direct, towing the 27' 5-er, WOT.

save yourself a few bucks and do it right the first time

Piers has developed the ultimate turbo for the "towing group"

check it out at www.piersdiesel.com

Piers turbo kicks ass over the HX40 for towing applications and the price is awesome :)

My understanding of Pier's turbo is that it is a HX-35 with a 16cm housing a HX-40 compressor wheel. He has also machined out the turbo. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Eric

12cm/14cm/16cm HX35s and 16cm/18 cm Hx40s. I currently own and have at one time or another used all that I have listed. The 16cm Hx35 works nice for towing on my 12 valve with the proper fueling. I just installed a Piers modified Hx35 which has increased spool up noticeably from the stock hx35. (Nice Turbo) I would recommend buying the 16cm housing and trying that before making any big purchases such as a new turbo. The bigger turbos are fun but come with a few draw back if you only plan to tow and are concerned about smoke and such. DBR

I am running a stock 35 with the 16 housing. I make 37 PSI here in the high dessert at full throttle.

The set up I have now tows super!!!! At high altitude there are some hills that I have to slow down to 70 MPH to keep the EGTs in check towing my TT.

I am going to try a Hybred turbo here shortly with the 16 housing on it.

I have the 16cm housing and tow a 20' GN stock combo trailer the 16cm lowered egts about 150 and no joke pick up 20-25 hp a must for towing also just in stalled a LARGE air filter 10. 5" dia by 12" long now the truck breathes and the black smoke is cut down.

(holset turbo Utah 1-801-268-9721) $120. 00 plus shipping. . I have 4" exhaust .
