in the snow, my Antilock and Brake lamps on my dash both came on (solid). I restarted the truck but nothing changed. The second I was pulled free, they went out. I have a code C P2900 stored.

There was some snow bunched up around the front tires but I wasn't high centered. Could snow have been someplace it shouldn't have been?

It seems like I read something here about this phenomena before but I couldn't find it.

Anyone have any idea what happened?

most likely when you were trying to get unstuck, you were spinning only one or two wheels. when this happens the computer senses a fault, as if the other wheel sensors are not working. once all the wheels started rolling again, it was happy.

thats my best guess. i've seen this on other vehicles.

don't know if its relevant but yesterday when i took off really hard, the rear hopped, and spun tires really bad. The abs/brake light came on and didn't go odd 'til i restarted truck.

I was afraid to press the brakes for the fear I would have none.

All was well upon restart

While plowing snow last winter I ended up getting stuck and while trying to get free I spun the tires pretty good and tripped the ABS light. After restarting the truck the light was no longer lit.

Jim, your correct - a lot of the time the drivers side front wheel wouldn't spin. With Mack and Roscoe's experiences in mind it sounds like it's kinda normal. Musta confused the heck out of the dumb ECM.

I sure wish there was a kit out there to lock those front wheels together or even better yet, I would have happily paid for a LSD!

Thanks for all the good info buds.

Since the 9 1/4 inch axle is used as a rear axle on the 1/2 ton trucks, I assume there will eventually be an aftermarket locker we could put on the front.

It's funny the little "catches" you run into with ABS sometimes.

In general, an abs light is nothing to worry about as far as loosing brakes. It just means the antilock feature is not working properly, but the brakes will still work ok.

I heard from AAM a few months ago that they expect to be out with a LS or Anti Spin unit for the front of our trucks by 2005.

I think the rear axle on the 1/2 ton is a 9. 25 "corporate" axle while our trucks use a 9. 25 "AAM" front axle. Basically they are two different animals with the same size ring gear.

deiselpilot: I had cointacted them about an aftermarket type of application and although they didn't state as much in thier reply I assumed that is what they were talking about. I put an aftermarket unit by "Tru Trac" in the front of a 73 Chev with the dana 44 in front and couldn't believe how much difference it made. The truck had the factory clutch type posi in the rear and with the torsion gear type in the front the differnece was night and day to have all four driving. Larry
