You mean like "No Towing During the First 500 miles"???

I'm thinking this is OPTIMAL breakin. I towed 18KLbs with my 02 Ram 3500 Cummins with about 30 miles on the clock to Indiana and back from DC area. No problems for 12 years and 198K miles. Other Rams, no problem putting 500 miles prior to towing. I did the 500 mile thing on my 2017 Ram 5500, just for doing breakin OPTIMIZED. Why not do it if you can but cant say it hurts anything if you don't.

Anyhoo, others may agree or they may have a different spin. I read every owners manual to learn functions, maintenance, and breakin. Some folks never open theirs.

Cheers, Ron

You don't want to baby a new engine, the no towing thing is for the drive train. Rings need to seat!

Limit the idling time as much as possible. Start it up and get moving. I've always been told to go easy for the first 500 miles on new auto transmissions to give the clutches time to wear in. No hard full throttle starts for the first 500 to 600 miles, limit the burnouts I assume... o_O

But new diesel engines need to be worked, they need heat cycles to break in right. They like to be worked! Same with motorcycles, my last Yamaha FJR owner's manual says to vary RPM the first few hundred miles, no sustained high rpm runs.

It will be easy, just get on the freeway heading home and vary speeds as we are going along. No burnouts, we only drive the old 3rd Gen 4runner hard and off-road, spin doughnuts in the sand and that sort of fun. Although we did take the 3500 to the Pumpkin Patch in Anza-Borrego through a couple slot canyons just a little wider than the truck, that was stupid/fun. Got on the wrong wash basically, but were able to follow a different one out.

Service Mgr at Dave smith told me to run the HE!! out of my 2011 DRW LongHorn with 13 miles on it. I did so from Kellog, ID to North of Seattle up and over I-90 at up to 90mph off and on the throttle.

Truck NEVER had fuel in oil and never went into region that i could see.

We broke in our 2015 pretty fast. 1350 miles in the first 48 hours and two motel receipts. 50-55 MPH for the first 150-200 miles and then onto I-80 and 80MPH for hour after hour. Truck always ran excellent.

o_O You understand the photo is a fully dressed engine NOT just a longblock. Just what you were asking for! Turbo included as well? I am assuming that's what arrived not after they swapped parts over from your blown engine.

Yup, that's a complete engine, bet the turbo is on it too.
